The choice of "cinabar (sic) red" by "gas57" is apparently derived from CINNABAR ore. The mineral mercury is extracted from is cinnabar. According to a Google search, the color of cinnabar
is described as red to reddish-orange, ranging from scarlet to brick red, including vermilion and Chinese red. Visual samples of this color ranged from blood or wine red to the deep orange color of a cooked lobster shell.

Six of the eleven choices for "Other" have been disqualified from consideration because the voters did not post the required clarification of their "Other" choice.

The five remaining "other" choices now stand as:

plain white (without pearl) (1)
"solar yellow" (1)
"cinnabar" (1)

My first choice would be Amythist, but not the Midnight shade....that's too dark. A Medium Amythist purple-gray would be nice....with a matching Medium Amythist INTERIOR as well.

Barring that possibility, I would take the regular Midnight Amythist over any of the other listed colors.

Did this cause any fricton or legal problems with Ford?
Ford did a black and silver Nieman Marcus Edition T-Bird about 3 or 4 years ago.

Take a look at this crystal of cinnabar to get an idea of the color. Would you call it a medium metallic red with burgundy overtones?

No. there is no burgundy at all in true cinnabar (as you can see from the photo). True cinnibar is a reddish-cinnamon color much like the spice paprika. It is pretty accurately depicted in the photo.

Chevy offered a true cinnbar color in the two-tone beige/cinnabar package for the Citation back in the early 1980's. More recently, slightly different shades of it have been seen on the Honda Civic, VW Jetta, some Volvos, the BMW 3-series, and a few other products.

no no conflict at all. it's just a one time deal, that was the special edition sc430 during the first year production. for 03 and 04 they had the pebble beach edition instead

that's funny, i thought that should be 2003. that's the year with the blue PB edition. the 04 one was all black with red interior. 2002 it was the neiman marcus edition with graphite exterior

Upon confirmation, please adjust the voting bar graph to reflect the following for EXTERIOR color choices for a proposed new 2006 SPECIAL EDITION.

(Note: "Other" currently includes SIX VALID choices for the proposed 2006 SC 430 Special Edition EXTERIOR color. They are "chocolate brown" (2) and the following with ONE vote each: "plain white" (without pearl), "solar yellow", "cinnabar" and "medium purple-gray".)

Apparently, SIX "Other" voters ignored the specifications that "Other" would require that a post be entered specifying the EXTERIOR color. Furthermore, any of the eight existing STANDARD colors may NOT be included in "Other".

As of January 9, 2005, valid votes include half for "Azure Pearl", a quarter for "Black Diamond" and the remaining quarter for five different choices listed above.

In a landslide, half the voters recommend "Azure Pearl" (2004 "Pebble Beach Edition") over "Black Diamond" (2005 "Pebble Beach Edition") to repeat as the THE exterior color yet to be announced for the NEW 2006 limited Special Edition color. The distant third choice with 2 votes is the "chocolate brown" of the "Carolina Herrera Edition" which was featured at the Madrid Auto Show.
