Sorry, I think this has probably been discussed before, but I can't seem to find the thread. Thinking about a new black SC430. What's the verdict--and with what degree of certainty--about whether or not the 2005 black SC430 is clearcoated?
Thanks for the help.

Are you being serious about them only clearcoating blacks lexus cars since 2001? I was under the impression that non-clearcoated cars were a thing of the past. I have an onyx black lx470 from 1999 and i am positive that it is clearcoated. I thing that you would be hard pressed to fine any car especially a lexus made in the last 10 years that is not clearcoated. Our onyx black sc430 is clearcoated by the way.

For anyone who likes to know, you can find out if your car is clearcoated or not by doing this simple test:
Take a clean white cloth or terry towel and apply wax or Scratch-X to it. Rub it on the body of your car. If the towel appears greyish or black, your car is NOT clearcoated. If the towel has no color, your car is clearcoated.

It's about time that they added clearcoat to Black Onyx.

Thanks for the replies. Don't really want to do the test, and it seems like we have conflicting answers here for Black Onyx on a 2005 SC430. Does anyone know definitively--and if so, how?--whether Black Onyx is indeed clearcoated? Thanks again.
