I am looking to paint my front grill black to match the car. I also want to black out the chrome strip above the grill. The problem is most body shops say the paint will not stay due to the fact the grill is plastic. I see they did one at the chicago auto show. It looks great.
Has anyone painted the grill? Does anyone know the best way to try is?

Talk to a painter. You can make paint stick to anything if you prime it right.
If not, the paint will not adhere.
And I suspect you will not be able to reverse the process, so you better be sure you will like the look before you take this jump.
Photoship it first to see how it looks.

I painted my grill without sanding just incase I ever wanted it chrome again on the trim. You can just primer and then paint your grill so that you can always remove the paint without seeing scratches from the sanding. The paint holds up very well if you get a right amount of primer.

You could always take a Zero Risk approach and get a spare grill to paint. I found one on eBay for $48 and no current bids:

yes i have seen that and thought about it. The problem is not replacing the grill. The chrome trim on the hood is a separate piece. Also it will be costly to paint the grill so I want to know it will stick.
