I hope it's not too late to add my two cents. I was in sort of a similar predicament to "droptop430" in that I have a 2002 with 48,000 miles I just bought six months ago from a dealer that was obviously up on warranty in 2000 miles. I was quoted $2200 for two years and $3400 for three years. Given the lack of any problems with my SC300 that I had for 10 years (yes, I hold on to cars a long time) with literally only one non-wear item (brakes and battery each only replaced once) breaking during ten years which could be attributed to my inept boss, I decided to take the risk and not purchase the extended warranty. I have also had horrible service from my local dealer which also affected my decision.
