I am looking at Navigation Discs on Ebay. I currently have the 2001 version and wanted newer mapping. All of the ads state to check with dealer for compatibility. Should there be concern for that? It seems to me that a DVD is a DVD.
Help please

Hi Al,
If life could only be that simple. The ads are right, be careful. Not only are there different version, there are also some recall issues I've seen reference to.
There are two types of NAV systems in these cars. Most of the upgrade discs you see on ebay won’t work in your car. They are for the 4th generation system install in the 2005 and later models. These are identifiable by the location of the nine (3x3) ball pattern at about the 6 o’clock position on the disc. Your car will have the third generation system. Ebay item 7972652745 is the correct one. Notice that the nine ball pattern is located at the 3 o’clock position. On ebay, the current version of the 3rd generation upgrade disc generally sells for $250 or more. Given that one of the CL sponsors sells this disc brand new for $288 (Sewell Lexus dba www.lexus-part.com), my advice is to buy from them, be sure of getting the right part and avoid all the other possible ebay pitfalls.
Today will be a beautiful top down day in Virginia. Enjoy it!
