Don't get me wrong it's a great motor with huge potential, but it is older technology, doesn't get very good fuel economy, etc.

IMO the NA 2JZ option just isn't powerful enough for what most buyers in this segment expect, especially with fairly heavy cars (3840 for SC430 and 3990 for the LS430) and they need the on-tap hp and torque of the v8 to compete. Yes you can build it and turbo the 2jz, but 99% of the buyers of these cars never would remotely consider doing that.
Bingo. its heavy two, only 2 lbs lighter than the Lexus V-8 engine which makes considerable more power.
2JZ had its day, its time to move on. With direct injection and dual VVTi, the 2JZ stock for stock can't compete with the new engines.

But its very possible there won't be another moddable engine like th 2JZ from Toyota in a very long time.

Also, LS and SC share the same powerplant. the LS600 is coming as a hybrid I onder if there are plans for an sc600 also.

The next IS will come in a coupe/hardtop convert/targa mode.
The next SC is already under development and more than likely whatever engines are offered in the LS, will be in the SC.

They always have that in Europe plus the diesel model as well.
A desperate move for N.America IMHO. Lexus doesn't have to necessarily follow what Benz does anyway.

Great point. There are 6 cylinder SLs as well in Europe.
I think BEnz is really desperate to increase sales, since they are down. Not sure how well a V-6 S class will sell here.
They did offer a S320 in the previous S-class, the really big one.

well comeing from the same plant doesn't mean they will have the same stuff inside at least with teh current sc430 chassis setup, i don't think they can stick in another hybrid engine on top of the massive v8
