Upgrade for 2002 SC nav. system?
#2
Shelley,
I have an "03" SC430 and I just purchased an "06" RX400h. I asked if I could use the "06" DVD from the RX400h in the "03" SC navi, and was informed that it would not work. The reason stated was that it is two different generations of navigation systems.
I didn't ask about an available upgrade for my SC. A quick email to Lexus should answer your question.
Gently to ya,
Flatfoot

Silvertoy-
You were majorly ripped off. I my update DVD cost me only $250. Installation involved hitting the eject button on the DVD player in the trunk, removing the old DVD and insterting the new one. It's absurd that they would charge you $75 for installation. It amazes me how some service departments at car dealers can be so shady. For example, I heard that for allignments, they just drive the Lexus to some place like Jiffy Lube, then mark up the price. Amazing!

Sewell Lexus here in Dallas runs the web site http://www.lexus-parts.com
Their price online is $288:

I was fortunate and received the update for Christmas. It definitely filled in some places where I was floating over fields. :-)
Check some of the other posts about the nav update if you want more details. For example, it does NOT update the menus to behave like the newer models. It does add some icons for malls, parks, hospitals, etc. Definitely worth it.

For those of you who have the upgrade...
Can you determine who the manufacturer is? I seem to remember that there are really only two nav. system software manufacturers and some one told me you can buy the upgrade from the manufacturer direct.
