Default Buying a used SC430, good idea???

My buddy is STRONGLY considering picking up an '02 SC430, certified from Lexus, with about 45k miles and the 3 year 100k bumper to bumper warranty. Any suggestions? Things to look for? Likes/dislikes? Is it workable as a daily driver in the midwest if he buys winter tires?

i don't know about midwest, not too familiar with that area since i am in cali, but i am loving my car

regarding the car, i don't see anything wrong. the car is very strong and the lexus drive train is sooo proven already, 45k is really nothing for the car. the car will go a lot of miles

ask for complete service records for the car, that's good start. also ask to make sure the car has no accidents, make sure the dealer guarantees that. and if it's cpo then that means a lot of the stuff are checked already so it's good

Thanks! How long have you had your SC? Did you but it pre-owned? Or new?

If it is a Lexus Certified Preowned car, I don't think he you could get hurt with it, unless he pays too much. Make sure that the price is fair and keep in mind that the extended warranty he's getting is worth a few extra bucks.
The car will provide many years and many miles of good service.

I bought a 2002 with 23,000 miles from Chicago and had it shipped to San Diego six months ago. It was certified pre-owned with a 3 year warranty and I got it for $44,500. I am happy with the deal and the car runs fine. I found that buying a convertable from back east in the winter saves big bucks. It was tragic buying it sight unseen though because there were a few scratches on the leather, no biggie though. Good luck!

Nice work, heck, I could have inspected it for ya, I'm near Chicago! Any regrets whatsoever on the car? Out west do you find you have the top down more than not?

We bought our 2002 in May of 2003, it had been in service
16 months and had 33k miles. It was at a Lexus dealer so
it came with the 3 year 100k warranty. They even replaced the
battery, under the warranty, no charge. It feels like we saved
thousands. It has 48k miles on it now at 4 model years.
Still have that new car feeling every we get " NICE CAR "

Buy a Cretified Pre-owned.

Gotcha, it went in for the 16k tune up, right?

Anyway, curious what you or anyone else was considering, had you not picked up the SC?

I had a 1999 Corvette Convertible for 18 months
before we got the SC430. I loved it but my wife didn't.
So a Vette would be nice now that the ride is better
and they have more HP.
I like a lot of bang for my buck.
MB is to much money for what you get.
Beamers too boxey.
Jag way down the list on J D Powers reliabilty list
Porsche (don't like a car i can't spell) Too small

Not alot of Top down, fair priced ,4 passenger
(yes I know it's small back there), quick, fun cars
out there. SC430 it the best one.

My 3 cents (infaltion)

Purchased CPO '03 sc430 in December 2003 for $50,000 (11 K miles). No problems to date (21 K miles). If your friend is looking for a pure sports car, SC not for him. Car is quiet, smooth, unrivaled quality and unique enough to get looks. However, after driving a short time, not what I really wanted. Power is lacking, automatic transmission/throttle-by-wire someout slow to respond and seating is flat with no side bolstering. My first automatic...the SC screams for a six speed manual. Moved to Lexus after 3 vettes in a row (1986, 1995, 2000) due to poor roads of S. Louisiana. Excellent sport coupe and nice daily driver, It just lacks a sports car soul.
