Front Brake Pad Question
The dealer wants way to much for a front brake job.
Longo has BRAKE PADS Part #: 0446522312 Price: $47.97
Has any one had any experince with this? My 02' has 48K
miles on it and the stealer er I mean dealer said I had 3 mm
left on the pads. How many miles can I go on 3 mm?
Has any one done this job themselves.

How timely is this question! I just checked my pads this morning as part of a tire rotation and will switch out the front pads in 5000 miles. They have about 3mm of thinkness remaining and the wear limit is 1mm which I think is too thin.
I have taken both the front and rear pads out before (when I painted my rotors before putting on the new caps) and they are very conventional Toyota. Basically a pull out and drop in process with a few pins, spring and clips in the way. For anyone who know anything about Toyota brakes, this will take about 15 minutes per wheel. The rears are also conventional and easy.
Regarding rotors, my SA says they always include them in the job (which I won't do since there's no indication of a rotor problem with my car). He couldn't explain to me why they insist on switching out the rotors. He said something about thoroughness, customer expectation, and number of comebacks.
Regarding the price, I got mine from Hoy-Fox in February (to help with the freight of a light order that I needed urgently). List then was 47.97 and they charged me 40.77.
I just checked and that's still the price from H-F. They want $110 for a front rotor and $122 for a rear one.
