like i said, you need to also tell us what offsets you got front and back, with just 8.5 and 9.5 i can't give any suggestion on spacer size
spacers are ok if they are not too wide. imho of course avoid them if possible, they are never 100% safe and reliable. you always put in more stress on the suspensions

I've installed 25mm H&R spacers front and back with no real problems with stock wheels, stock suspension, and 245/45 tires. Fronts touch the fenders on very rare occasions on deep impacts at speed, so 20mm would probably be better. I'm using 25mm instead of 20mm because I didn't want to go through the process of replacing the lug bolts (the 25mm are bolt-ons). Every 5k miles I have their torque checked as part of the regular service.
