i thought with the sc430 the car oversteer more easily? duno, at least that's how i feel about the car over my gs400 (probably coz' of the heavy "butt")?

Could've been tire condition, but the day I put the sways on the car, I went ***** out onto an 270 degree onramp and the front tires washed out on me. Quite startling, but just taped the brakes and brought it back into line... No guardrail would've let me do a little off-roading.
But I was wondering about the 40mm diference in tire width. Obviously the SC is set up for same width tires. On the supra stock is 235/255 (20mm differential) and when we go bigger, we usually go for 30mm. (i.e., 245/275, 265/295, 285/315) Not likely to ever be noticable, but if one were actually a good driver, you might notice the difference.
All that being said, if one knew what they were doing, you could compensate accordingly with shock, spring and swaybar settings...
But really, how wide can you go without rubbing and still keep some cushion is really the question for 99.9% of SC owners here.

about tires, you are fine. i have 245 and 285 on my gs, and my friend has 255 and 295. there is no problem at all.

I wonder how much tire you can get under the front w/o rubbing?
A 255/285 or 265/295 set up would be pretty nuts. More than enough to keep a Supra planted. Even if the SC is a little more of a pig.
Maybe I'll see if my new Supra wheels will bolt up. Just need a little spacer.

actually, good point..... i just remember what happened the other weekend. i was on the sc430 on 270 degree freeway change. i entered it very fast but when i turned, the car didn't turn fast enough and i had to brake (dangerous) and brought it back... so yeah that's understeer. not sure if it's tires coz' those are nothing compared to my michelin. i am already at max with my sways

major typo: now it has understeer (not oversteer). and yes, my settings are for the rears to be stiffer than the fronts, i.e., 1/0; 5/4; 10/9.
in fact, i'm very happy about the ride comfort with cst but i'm not satisfied with the handling dynamics. is the dump or the spring rates?

did some experimenting and you know having the front dampers 4-5 clicks softer than the rears makes a huge difference. the car feels more balanced (contrary to what we'd think). maybe that's why lexus swapped out the rear shocks and springs in 05 to make them stiffer.
