hi justin, welcome to the forum! glad to have you here! where in clai are you in? don't tell us you have a white sc430

anyway, regarding your question. first of all i have a serious advice. step out of the shop you talk to, leave, and NEVER go back. i say that coz' they have absolutely ZERO idea about what they ar talking about.

yes the sc430 has disc brakes for all 4 wheels, but that's not rocket science anymore, a lot of cars, espcially high end cars, have these. and you can see that most of us have wheels on our sc430 here no problems.

the sc430 doesn't even have big brakes up front. so it's not hard to put aftermarket wheels on at all.

i might agree if someone tell you it's not a good idea to put rims on the sc430, but depends on what the reason is. tell us the reasons and i can tell you whether you should stop talking to those "everyone"

Glad you came to this forum. First of all, Romini is someone you SHOULD be talking to. There are only about 300 others on here that are extremely helpful and have done all kinds of mods to the SC430. They won't lead you astray. If there was no way to put rims on this vehicle, then Lexus probably wouldn't have sold many. The pie plates that come from the factory were not the most attractive wheels ever designed. RUN away from any wheel shop that tells you what you've heard. If you think there is bias with these forum members, then talk to wheelexperts.com or thetirerack.com and many other reputable wheel places. Very nice car by the way. Take care!!!

DUB:
What you need to kinow is that it is the revolutions which MAY screw up the ABS. The technique is to ensure the overall diameter is correct as compared to stock. If you do not get this right, then the speedo will read incorrectly as well.

So what needs to occur is if you decide to giant rims, then you need a profile which will give you the same total diameter to ensure the revs per mile are correct. Perhaps 22" is pushing the envelope, but I run 19" crappy DUB overpriced Maya rims with 275's in the rear... no problemo for the ABS or speedo.

I believe there is a WEB site that will help you out, but I can't recall. Maybe another FORUM member can help

Anyway, don't listen to a shop unless they explain why... anyone can say "NO"...

well for one, even with oversize wheel there should be no problem. tons of people including me are running 20s with overspec tires on our lexus (gs400 and sc430) and we have no problem with vsc, trac, and abs. these stuff on the lexus are smart enough to really sense what you are doing.

the only "down" side with 20s and overspec tires is that your speedo will be off a little.

on some older cars, the trac and abs might be a problem

and also, with bigger wheels, you do have to watch out for the brakes coz' some wheels are on the heavy side and the stock brakes might not be strong enough to stop the car, usually over long driving. that's one major reasons why i upgrade my brakes as well. safety always comes first

to be honest dub, just forget about that shop there is nothing they say that you should worry about. i really think a lot of us here can help you more than they can

I can see how the speedometer can be affected by a larger diameter rim and even some breaking problems with heavier rims, but how is ABS affected?

the answer is it shouldn't

sometimes people put different size wheels front and back and that might cause problems on different cars
