Have prices fallen for SC430's?
Since the US exchange is favourable to us Canadians, I've begun looking for a SC430. I have found several SC430's for mid $20's. Is this normal for the US? I ran Carfax's on them and they were clean. I'm kinda puzzled, as I thought they would be more. Granted, the ones in the mid 20's are not numerous. Low to mid 30's seems to be more the norm. Can anyone confirm this? There is one that sounds "too good to be true" in Denver. Anyone near Denver??

Wow! Mid 20's that's cheap, in the Toronto area the cheapest I have seen an 02 is in the 50's. That's Canadian of course.
If you are close to the border you could pick one up in the US. How does free trade effect bringing a used car back across the border?

Brand new SC430 in Canada is MSRP C$90K+ , with today's exchange rate of 0.84, that's US$77K , I believe the price of a new SC430 in US is only US$66K . . . Yeah cars are much cheaper in the US nowdays. Back when I bought my SC430 in Sept. 2002 (MSRP was C$89k & exchange rate was about 0.63), it was cheaper than in the US then . . .

Mid 20's? I know that there are many crooks on Autotrader that list cars for very cheap and then tell you that the car is in storage and they need a deposit, blah blah blah,etc... Crooked low life scum that should &^%&^%&^.
While shopping around here in So Ca for my SC, I found that a decent mid 40k car 2002 model would be around 34-38k. 2003 would be around 38-45k and from then on.

Like they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
I was having a hard time finding a used SC430 since I wanted the midnight pine with saddle interior. I did find one on eBay in Texas last year which was in the low 30's which was about $10-$15,000 less than what it should be. Being suspicious, I did Carfax which didn't show anything wrong with this car. After pressing the "dealer" (I think he just bought wrecked or junk cars to fix and resell) for more information, he did say the title was "junked" or something similar to that phrase. After the usual fast talking on his part to say there was nothing wrong with the car, he said that you can clear a title by registering it in California first and then in Wisconsin. Apparently California would not catch or print the word "junked" on the title. I did talk to someone at DOT in California for a long time about this, and not only wasn't I convinced that I would get a clear title for it in Wisconsin, I also found out that I may have to have the car inspected in Wisconsin before I could get a title here for it. Given all the hassles, I passed on it.
The part that scared me was the CarFax did not catch that it had been totalled or junked by the insurance company, so do not rely on them. CarFAx would also not refund my money when presented with the fact that the car was totalled or junked which they missed. Since it was only about $20 or $30, I didn't pursue it further and it was an inexpensive lesson learned.

Mid 20's, not a chance.
SC's are right about mid to upper 30's for a 2002-03 right now. I have never seen one under 33k. In another year they will be under 30k though.

Bought an '02 for $34k in March '05
I bought my 2002 Lexus SC 420 for $34,250 in March 2005 when it had 49,300 miles on it. It had all the options (nav, runflats and spoiler) and was in great condition. I bought it from a BMW dealer who received it in a trade from one-owner (I have all the service paperwork) for a new BMW 6-series convertible.
The only downside, I had to pay sales tax of $2,400 and then I bought the Lexus Extended Platinum Warranty, so in total I paid about $38,500, but the point of my post is, good SC's can be had for under $35,000 if you're willing to wait and search (I searched for 3 months and would not budge from my limit of $35,000). If you can buy it person-to-person and avoid sales tax, that's your best route, but I was satisfied with my deal. One thing was important to me...it had to be a one owner car who had maintained all the records. Luckily, this guy had done all his maintenance at one Lexus dealership.
My warranty runs through 2008, at which point I'll probably sell the car.
