I could not add any more pics to the original post due to the limit so here are additional pictures for those interested in performing this themselves to avoid any surprises once started.

To assist in removing the rear carpet-here are some pics. Not all of the carpet needs to be removed. Just moved over to gain access to the wiring harness as you must reach down in there and unclip it and pry it off the body before pulling it out the rear.

This cover pops right off. Use a small flat head screwdriver to pop it off. Look carefully at it with a flashlight and you can see the how it snaps inside. You are not removng the entire handle, just the outer trim piece holding the carpet.

Pull the light off is tricky and requires some force (did you use tape?). Stand behind bumper and pull unit towards and downward at the same time. Basically pretend you are pulling towards your knees.

OK, to help with removal of the carpet this large biege piece needs to be removed.
THIS REQUIRES A SPECIAL TORX tool available from your autoparts store or Sears. It is a Torx T-40.

Use Torx T-40 to remove this on both sides of car.Be very careful and press down while turning. It is on there good and if you do not have a good tight fit will strip this bolt.Like I said push down on socket while turning counterclockwise to remove. It moves slowly at first. Notice the rubber cover? To reinstall this, put some light oil on the inside and twist while pushing onto the bolt. This must be reused as the top assembly rest on this.

Also it is ok to lift up the rear rubber seal along the top of the taillight assembly.

Hope this helps, questions ,PM me.
Lee

Putting that rubber peice back in where the T40 screw is is a PAIN!! I used some Shinetsu grease and it went right in with no problem.

Lisa,

The turn signal portion of the taillight is clear so using clear bulbs will produce a clear light which may be against local/state code in your area. Unless the clear bulb you received actually creates a amber light which I doubt. If the taillight portion was amber then using either bulb would work but it is clear so clear bulbs will not work.

Yes, for the turn signals/hazards. brakes/taillights are LED. But perhaps you have clear bulbs that shine amber. If so that would be cool as i do not like the amber bulb inside the taillight.

Let us know.
