I know this is an old thread, but I will be needing to replace tires sometime soon. I am considering going without runflats. Does anyone have suggestions on what is a good tire for the SC430. I have an 02' with about 65K miles on it. Picked it up just over a year ago, and love driving it. I feel the pull on certain roads which I am assuming is caused by a combination of the type of tire and the "grooves" in the road surface.
One suggestion I heard was Continental Extreme Contact, and another was Pirelli P-Zero All Season Plus.

If you want ride quality and don't mind the speedometer being a tad off 245/45/18 is the way to go. Those Continentals are good tires. The Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus is probably the best all season in my opinion. Fantastic longevity. And of course the Michelin mxm4 and premiers. Run flats suck. Mine are new on the car at purchase and they suck. Don't know how long I can take it.

I replaced my Dunlop Run Flats about 3 months ago with Continental Pure Contact tires. Couldn't be happier.

Default Bridgestone experience

I noticed the Bridgestone "groove following characteristic" on the loaner car the Dealer lent me. It also had little or no feedback on smooth surfaces - seemed to float - when driving straight ahead at ~70 mph.

I had B'stone RE 50A (?) stock on my AMG - 2nd worst tires I ever had. The worst were Nexens that came on a used car - dangerous!

ivanj, I was going for a softer, smoother ride when I put the Continentals on. If you research the Continentals, they are kind of known for that. I had them on my Lexus 2014 ES350 and loved them. To each their own, but I truly love the Continentals.

Default Hard ride - older car

Just bought an '06 Pebble Beach and was surprised how hard the ride is (I didn't notice it at lower speeds which is all I did for test drives).

[Added 4.1.08] For anyone reading this, I found a lot of suggestions on the other lexus club:

  • If the car hasn't been driven in a long time it will ride hard. It will smooth up and quiet down after you drive it however:
  • If the car has custom wheels make sure the wheel offset is close to the factory spec
  • Check the tire pressures
  • Check for uneven tire wear
  • set the wheel torque with a torque wrench, not an airgun
  • Put the car on a lift and spray all the rubber suspension bushings etc. with tire shine (not cleaner) which is 98% silicone and 2% fragrance. Really soak them down - it might take more than one application. The stuff is cheaper than a dedicated silicone spray and does just as good a job for your application. This will lube the rubber and
  • While the car is up in the air grab and shake the tires, push them in and out
  • Inspect all the suspension components for tears. One example are the rubber sway bar bushings.
  • Check the shocks for leaks

I completely agree! I just drive mine around town, but the "tracking" that the runflats do was getting all over my cloud. Put some nice Michelins on and it is night and day.

So If you go with the 245/45/18's can you go in through Techstream and adjust the speedometer to the 245/45 vs 245/40's size that came on the car? In 18's of course. The reason I ask is because you can get the Prelli P7 Plus in a 245/45/18 but you cannot get them in a 24540/18. You can only get the P7 All season in the 245/40 which comes with no tread warranty.

No, you can't adjust the speedometer. It will read like 2 - 3 mph faster than you are actually going, not bad. The benefit going to a 45 sidewall will help a lot on comfort. Those P7's are worth it. 👍

I agree I have the P7's 245/45/19 on my 2010 LS460L and love them. However I made the mistake of getting the P7 All season not the P7 Plus All Season. The ride has been great however the tread wear has been very sub par shall we say. I have about 35K on them and they are very close to replacement time. I was thinking I would put the P7 Plus All Season 245/45/18's on the SC and the 245/45/19's on the LS
