Navigation install detailed link on Sewell
I'm having trouble with a new upgrade I just purchased on eBay. It doesn't work. I wonder if I might be doing something wrong? The parts guy at Lexus said it was the correct dvd before we ordered it. Now we might be stuck with the wrong thing. Can someone tell me how to find the detailed install instructions mentioned on the internet? I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Turn the ignition switch to the ACC or ON position
Open the trunk
Disengage the 2 claws
Remove the Navigation ECU cover
Press the PUSH button and slide it to the left. This will open the dust cover and eject the DVD
Remove and discard the old DVD
Insert the new DVD
Press the PUSH button and slide it to the right
Reinstall the navigation ECU cover
Verify the search area is set to the local area described in the NAV owners manual
Your navigation system will now update on its own
Good luck

I'm not sure what the exact link is, but if you go to the Sewell Lexus page, which you can find on the list of this Forum's advertisers, you can go to the parts area and when you get to the NAV disc updates for sale, there is a link there to a PDF that has the instructions. This PDF contains several sets of instructions for several different Lexus models, but the SC part is clearly marked.
It's not very complicated. If you already have a data version of 2 or higher, you just put in the new disc and the next time the Nav system starts, it will access the new data on the new disc. If you still have version 1, however, the disc will ALSO update the OS -- this update takes 2 or 3 minutes, during which there is a warning notice on the screen telling you in no uncertain terms not to turn off the engine while the update is being made.
After the update, the system will no longer read the version 1 data, which is five years old now anyway, but as far as I know, the updated system would probably read version 2, 3, 4 and 5 if, for some reason you were to swap them in and out. I guess this would come in handy if, for example, I had a second Lexus with a Gen 2 or 3 Nav system (like a 2003 RX300, for example) in which case I would probably use my older NAV disc in that car and not update both systems, which would require the purchase of 2 discs (ouch!). For a road trip, of course, you can always put the newest disc in the car you will be using to hit the road.
I upgraded from 1 to 2, and just recently to 5, and I have not put the ver 2 data disc back into the car to see if the system would use that data, but from what I read I think it would do that.
You now have a lot more information than you asked for, so I'm outta here.

Thank you for all of the great info! We currently have Data 2001 ver 1 dvd. It is still not working. The message reads, "unable to read data. check if map dvd is correct." I bought DVD ROM 86271-33044 464210-0582 DATA ver 04.2. Toyota Motor Corporation 2004 DENSO CORPORATION 2003 NAVTEQ GDT, Geographic Data Technology, Inc. Data by inoUSA 2003. Just installed the latest update on 1-20-06
Got the DVD from Sewell on 1-20-06. It was as described in the instructions on thier web site. Just pop out the old DVD and pop in the new DVD with the key set to ACC. Updates the firmware and mappings. All local roads are true again.

BTW: I think we got the correct update dvd. Something might be wrong with our navigation system. Lexus was nice enough to offer to try another update dvd and it didn't work either. They are going to take it in one day this week and figure out what is wrong.
