i have tried both in my gs400 and sc430. putting it in d or 4, you floor it, it's the same throughout the first 3 gears

If this is so than why at so 35 or 40 mph if I go from "d" to4 I pick up 1000-1500 rpms? If as you say it only matters for the overdrive gear this would not be the case. I have no question my car shifts much quicker in 4 than D. It definately seems like a different shift pattern. Also take off the tracktion controll and floor it from a dead stop in 4 and in D. You get alot more wheel spin in 4. Once again the only explination can be higher RPM's???

if your cruising at 35-40, your car is probably in 5th gear for fuel mileage. Take the OD off aka put it in "4" your taking a gear away thus the engine has to turn faster to keep the car going at the same speed. Quit buggin! Turning overdrive off (D) will only affect how your car performs in 4th gear, 1-3 will still be the same....as has already been mentioned.

if you don't want to answer my question than don't post! This form is for questions answers and discussion if you don't like it feel free to leave

I guess I should always take your word as fact huh?

Plus are you saying I am in 5th gear at 30mph?

easy there, i don't think 1loud said anything wrong.

if you just drive normally, at around 40mph, you are most likely in 5th gear already. it's very normal for cars with auto tranny to save fuel. i will do a very little test tonight when i get home and i will get back here with details to prove it.

like i said, there is no difference if you floor the car in D or 4. if anything that's just your car and your case. for me i punch it in 4 or D and i can still get wheel spin if i want, and the car will still shift when redline as expected. there is no documents or so that shows that if the car is in 4 there is a different shift pattern. the only thing that affects it is if you put the button on pwr

and no it won't give you more power, it just don't take away power when you are losing control. just make sur eyou know what you are doing
Well said! if you are on the street keep it on.
If your on the track, you should be finding out why you might want it off

Just to clarify, the person who found this "VSC/TRAC OFF" aka DYNO MODE found it from a 2006 Toyota Avalon owners manual. Just to clarify, the 2006 Avalon does NOT have VDIM. There is no VDIM found in the 2006 SC430...nor any other Lexus model other than the 2006 RX400h, GS430 and IS350 ONLY.

ok i did a little testing when i was driving back from work today, in my gs400 (perfect car imho, you will see why). first of all, i let the car warmed up.

i slowly go from red light, no hard accel, just let it go. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear, i looked down, and i am around 40 to 45mph. so yes, if you just drive normally, by the time you hit 5th, you will *only* be doing around 40 to 45mph. the rpm was low, like around 1200 to 1600? anyone on freeway when i doing around 80mph, it was up to about 3000rpm (5th)

so back on the street doing around 45mph. i put the car from D to M (there is no 4th in gs400, coz' it has the manual shift function). the screen said 5, which is "standard". i then proceed to down **** from 5 to 4th. immediately i noticed the tranny down shifted and it goes up to around 2000 to 2300rpm. i didn't change my gas position at all. that means the car was in 5th gear and now in 4th gear (the number shows the max gear it will hold).

i hope this is a good test to show what gear the car is in and what happens when you put the car in 4

Actually any gear with less than a 1:1 ratio is an overdrive gear.
