Sorry Chowder, I can't agree with you on that one. When you wait as long as most of us did and pay $70,000 for a car, you should not have to deal with the roof, door or radio panel rattling as you drive down the street.

I didn't say the noises were acceptable, but to be excepted.
Take it to the dealer, road test and DEMONSTRATE the noises so they can fix them. That is the best thing to do.
Good Luck.

One passanger or two?
I am finding different rattles depending on how many people are in the car.
When I am alone, with the top up I assume its a roof rattle. Then I put the top down - I think its a passenger seat rattle. Windows up - a new rattle.
Most of the rattles disappear when someone is with me in the passenger seat (like the service manager!). Does that make it a seat rattle? This is tricky.
No way should this be happening and I expect that Lexus will take care of me when I go in for 5000 mi (3600 now). I'm trying to catalog the different times I hear things.

Knicksfan...My symptoms EXACTLY. I have been in 4 times for this. No luck yet. They replaced my entire seat ($8,000 job.) but the elusive rattle still remains. I find it hard to fault the dealership, as they seem even more befuddled than me.
Some times when I put my hand on the passenger headrest the rattle goes away, othertimes nothing.
Driving with passenger makes everything quiet down nicely.
Please Please Please, it you or anyone else finds a solution please post it here for all to benefit.
Hope it is not a harmonic set up by run flats. I don't believe shocks and springs were designed for run flats.

Seems to me the service techs at Lexus just DON'T know what they are doing with regards to fixing rattles in the SC430. They just screw around with the parts near the rattle(s) -when and if they hear them- and just make thing worse. SOOOOOOO frustrating!!

I had a rattle which appeared to come from the passenger sun visor. The dealer ordered and installed new insulated visor clips and the rattle has been significantly reduced. I will be glad to get the part number if anyone is interested.

Different rattle:
I have an 02 SC430 which had been quiet until 2 months ago. Now it has a metalic rattle mostly heard at low speeds, and MUCH LOUDER when there is a passenger in the car--the bigger the passenger, the louder the rattle. It seems to be coming from under the passenger seat or the right front wheelwell. Dealer said it was anti sway bar bushings, and packed with silicone, but rattle didn't change a bit. I live 2 hours' drive from dealer, and returning for repairs (although service dept is great, and always provide loaner as long as I need it) is major pain. Anyone have any ideas????
