every time i add gas there i use that station with the 100 octane, trust me i was tempted.

lee, going to 93 will probably help a bit, but anything higher you are not gonig to gain anything. so for sure i won't be spending anything on 100

Well it is all about timing and how advance the ignition could be driven by the ECU according to the O2 and Knock Senors.

Fact is: 100 Octane Fuel will lead to less detonation driven at the same timings as maybe 95 octane will do... so if the SC430 ECU can handle 100 octane well it will improve performance...

here in germany the ECU was timed to see at least a min. of 95 octane...

Enjoy a little vid of when you have 100 oc in the fuel cell

WMV

regards
marcus

Have to agree. I have known several people at my track down here that buy the racing gasoline (or dump in the octane boosters big time) and hardly any effect. I remember reading something on line in a test with a Pontiac, they only improved .1 to .05 in the 1/4 mile. Again, the story was advancing the timing and that is the mistake most of the people who use this stuff make or that they fill up without letting their tank go completely empting and wind up diluting the higher octane gas.

Default 99 RON Octane fuel

Here in the UK we can now get 99 octane fuel at about 4p per litre more than regular at about £4 per gallon. (95 octane fuel).

I'm convinced that acceleration is improved over the standard fuel.

I know on my 350Z that 99 over 95 (or even 98) is better as the ignition timing is advanced as long as no knock is detected. Does this happen also with the SC as the manual states you can temporarily go as low as 91 octane.

Cheers

don't know about the UK, but in the US it says use at least 91. and in ca, 91 is pretty much what you get unless you pay almost double for 100

Yes,

Just found this data for an mr2 and an m3 7 - 10% gains across the complete torque curve using 99 octane fuel...

Shall carry on using

what's the compression on our engines? i am thinking for very high compression engines or FI, then higher octanes probably help more?

Compression ratio is 10.5 to 1...

Been reading up on ECUs they can adjust fueling and timing these days also Im nearly at the end of my 2nd tank full and throttle response is getting a bit to race car like!

Interestingly the link i posted earlier did all dyno's after 3 full tank fulls so wonder if they know something...

Cheers

What are the downsides to using 87 octane gas? Retards timing, less power, less mpg. But any mechanical problems? steve

Default Regular Gas?

Any owners use regular gas in SC430? If so, were there any issues or concern long term?

Have done so on other luxury vehicles like 2002 BMW 330CI and 2003 Acura MDX without any problem except very slight sacrifice in full acceleration from still position.

Default I'm not embarassed to admit I do

But as to what info is currently out there, major concerns would be of the quality of the gas itself (clean or not) and of knocking (if your engine does). I've been on the low(er) stuff for about a month now, so far no negative effects that I can report. I don't push my car that hard anyways (well, save for the occasional 0-80 sprints). But in reality, it's about a $3 different on a full tank and what's $3 in the overall grand scheme of things? Of course I fill up every 4 days...so $3 x 90 fill-ups a year = $270 = 1 less trip to Vegas for me

Of course when I begin taking my car to the tracks, I'll be using the "good" stuff

Angry Ain't gonna do it!

Owners manual says you can run it as long as the knocking doesn't get too bad. Our SC gets driven 12K miles per year. Thats $144 difference, $12 per month, a 12 pack of good beer, a nice dinner out somewhere! I'll do without and buy cheap beer and cook out before I put cheap gas in the SC.
