Exclamation Ultimate Lexus fun=Skin Cancer Risks

I must confess that this never really dawned on me until someone brought it up in conversation. Something to think about. As I drive with the top down 95-99% of the time, I am headed to the drug store to get some cream.

Well, I am always well aware of that, I only drive my SC430 with the top down early morning (before 10 am) & late afternoon(after 4 pm)

Thanks for the reminder! I did not really associate before this the convertible with SPF lotion (unlike the beach). Gotta have a small tube in the car always ready.

I have been good about applying sunscreen when needed. Mostly on the weekends! Kind of sticky though.

i strongly believe it is indeed hurting the skin when you drive top down. taht's why most of the time (especially during summer) when me and my wife we drive the sc430 top down, we put on sun blocks. you never know

The timing of this is excellent!
I heard someone in the medical field being interviewed on the radio this morning and one of the things she brought up was the fact that skin cancer reports have increased as convertibles have gotten popular again.

I always keep some lotion in the car in season.

my gf was just complaining to me about how the convertable was making me darker, and causing me to get freckles on my face. LOL I told her she is prob right and get me some face moisturizer with SPF protection I told her to do it since girl products seem to be better

I always keep a baseball-type-hat in the back seat for top down driving (since I'm short on hair).

I wear it even when I'm dressed in a suit and tie. It may look stupid, but the hat keeps the sun off my dome, and the brim keeps the sun out of my eyes.

Highly recommended.

And in this car, you don't really look stupid anyway, just eccentric.

I can live with eccentric.

Any secrets in prevention of your baseball cap blowing off or do you just wear it very tight?

LOL. I wear mine a bit tight and a bit lower in front. This is good up to about 80 or so. Only once did it fly off my head but I was able to grab it in mid air which must have been funny for other drivers and amazed me at the same time.

If it fits right, it won't blow off.

Hell, my cowboy hat (a really good one from Nashville) fits well and it won't blow off when I wear it with the top down (although the brim in back will hit the headrest).

Finally, why wear some hat that you care about if it blows off at 90?

That's the fun of it.

lol, i would love to see that again lee

btw, those who put on sun blocks, be VERY careful. do NOT let any of the sunblock get into the leather. if so, wipe them away fast. otherwise put the car under the sun for couple of hours and the leather will start to discolor. happened to a few leather cars i have seen already

You guys make some great points regarding sun exposure. Even with my dark skin and melanin, I keep a Yankee fitted in the trunk. I haven't done the SPF stuff yet like I do when I'm at the beach but it's definitely something to be aware of.
