It's the holiday weekend and I'm a mess!! Please Help w/ battery!
Hey guys. Long story short my g/f hits a pothole and blows the tire last Saturday . I finally decide to go drive my car thursday night so I go to the garage and notice the battery is dead. The Interior lights were left on judging by the switch. (not exactly the first time she's done this.) Anway after getting a jump the car turns on and I let it run a while before sucessfully restarting it. Today this evening I go to check on the car and thankfully my remote/alarms work but not enough to start the car. So now I need to buy a new battery I guess as this one is no longer holding a charge. What a way to start the holiday weekend. Any suggestions?? I posted here specificaly because I wanted to make sure the battery I buy fits properly and more importantly is strong enough for our cars power roof and all. Please help guys thanx and have a wonderful and safe weekend on the road.

When you say "let it run for a while" how long do you mean? Also, and more importantly, did you DRIVE the car? You need to DRIVE it after jump starting a battery to get the alternator to properly convert the kinetic energy from the rotation of the crankshaft into electrical energy so that the battery can charge via the auxiliary drive belt aka serpentine belt. Simply allowing the car to idle won't really help with the charge in the battery, only temporarily enough to turn it off and on again relatively quickly as you did when you "successfully restarted" it.
If the headlights or in dash lights brighten when you rev the engine, these are signs of a weak battery. This indicates the battery may not be holding enough current to run the car and is working off the alternator (as it was while your car was simply idling in the driveway).
TRy jumping it again and drive that sucker around for 20 minutes.
If not, its possible you need a new battery. How old is your current battery? I would recommend Optima Yellow Top as a new battery if need be. Die Hard batteries are also generally good batteries.

Sorry about the bad timing.
I am one of those that tests my battery and charging system at every oil change just to be on top of things. A nice load tester can be had for under $30.00 from most stores.
Here is a link to my battery install. I have Optimas in all of my cars/trucks.

But as stated ,once a battery is deleted ,a nice charge is required as a short term charge will only give a battery a surface charge which will normally not endure storage.
Optimas for our cars are available from Sears.

on battery, i acrtually recommend lexus oem ones (actually they are rebadged interstate) if you don't really do a lot of special stuff with your car. optima are supposedly better if you run audio or so without teh car running, but they have shorter warranty and also more expensive. i thought about getting it for my gs400 but decided i'd rather get the interstate for much cheaper and just as good when i run my car most of the time (when using any electronics)
