Default Chassis stiffening - How to make firmer suspension ?

Hey guys,

I've scoured this BB trying to get more information but I'm having no luck.

I'm trying to improve the rigidity or even "feel" of my SC430. I find the stock SC430 handling and chassis to be sloppy, especially compared to my '04 BMW 330Ci. When the top goes down, it's even worse. To address this, I've:

o Bought the STB
o Got the Tein CS coilovers

The STB did hardly anything as far as I could tell. I've also heard the same from a couple of other posters on this board.

The Tein has drastically improved the handling. Day and night difference. It's also helped address the chassis a bit by not letting bumps and road irregularies affect transmit to the chassis.

However, the chassis still feels sloppy and the weakest link in the setup. I have NOT:

o Added the lower braces
o Changed out the run flats/changed wheel/tires
o Changed the sway bars

I heard Tom's lower braces can fix chassis flex, though they can introduce creeks and noise in the system. True? What should I do, in short of buying a Boxster?

Any feedback appreciated and thanks for reading,
Killerbyte

I had the same issue when I sold my M5 and bought the SC430. Here's what I did:
Tein coilovers as low as they can go and set at the stiffest ride setting
Daizen sways, this was key to removing some of the sloppiness
20" wheels and non runflats
I threw on a Blitz exhaust and stoptech brakes on the front but that's not handing stuff though you could make an unsprung weight case between the heavier wheels and calipers.
All in all I couldn't be happier with the car, but I do remember when I sold the M5 it took a few months to get used to the Lexus.

I am sorry if I do not understand you correctly, but change the run flat and see if its another "day and night" difference. Recently I have put those 18" run flat on my GS and I swear it feels like i am driving without the tires!!!

strut bar isnt going to do what you want.

If I were you I would go get the sway bars first, it made a big improvment for me. If the sway bars dont satisfy you then get the bilstein coil overs and sell me your teins

coilovers and sway bars, those shoudl be the first things you get for the car

all the bars and braces they are only secondary.

after that then you need wider wheels and better tires

The experts have spoken. Agreed. Dump the run flats. Coilovers and sways first. Huge improvement.

Thanks again for everyone who had responded. It sounds like go with the sway bars first, then better tires (and maybe wheels). Hope that does the trick.

Also, I did max out the firmness of the Tein CS and it improved things further. Hopefully the sways, then tires will do it. Otherwise I'll send you an offer tonydt1g3r

I still have the runflats but I agree the most important thing is to swap out the sway bars. Huge difference.

Default How to make firmer suspension?

I love my SC, but I wish the ride was better. Its too floaty and way too much body roll.
I also have a G35 coupe and I wish this car handled more like that.
Is there anything simple I can do to make this car a tad firmer without jeopardizing my suspension travel?

If I install Tein H Techs, will this do the trick?

don't get springs, its not going to help anything

get teh tein cs or some other coilovers

and then also get the daizen sway bars. that's gonna change your car completely

@killerbyte

well - i have all of the TOM's Braces and Members installed, also all other MODs... In my opinion most of the body roll/shake comes from the front/rear suspension members - the bushings are a way to soft... E.g. if you hit the brake at "walking speed" the car will shake for- and backwards... doing this with turned front wheels will boost the effect... Also bigger wheels will maximise those shakings...

get the sway bars first since they are cheaper. if that solves your problem then just get the h-tech. if it doesnt then get the coil overs. Save yourself some money

It sounds like the sway bars are the first thing to try. Has anyone installed them or is it more of a mechanic task? I didn't see a price on Daizen's website, so does anyone have an approximate price?
