Lexus cars owned: '96 SC400, '98 GS400, '98 LS400, and '04 SC430. I drove several GS430s (one for several days as mine was at the shop) and didn't feel a difference with mine. In fact, my GS felt peppier at part throttle than both the GS430 and SC430, because both are equally reluctant to downshift. But again, neither being sports cars, most of us can live with that, but it's somewhat disappointing (the 'sport' button should have fixed that). That's one reason why I stopped buying Lexus cars for several years (plus the ton of problems I had with that GS and LS), but wasn't impressed with the alternatives in other aspects either. Later.

one thing to remember when considering drag coef. is that it is also a function of surface area.

Many semi's have drag coefs of .29 or .30 but once you factor in surface area the overall force applied on the car is dramatically increased.

I know for a fact that the surface area of the front of the SC is far less than the surface area of the GS. This must be factored into the equation when you want to know overall drag. It is essentially more important than the drag coef.

the gs400 has half drive by wire and half drive by cable system, moreover it has a completely different ecu setup and mapping, making the throttle response more responsive then both the gs430 and the sc430.

If you are looking for an everyday practical car-the GS. The SC has no rear seat room for anything but groceries and the rear with the top down will not fit a golf bag. With the top up you can fit an entire differential in there
