Default Deactiving DRL at the dealership?!?

The BMW dealership was able to disable the DRL option w/o any probs when I had an M3 yet when I went in last week to do the personalized settings, the service manager said some mumbo jumbo about Lexus NA won't let the dealerships do that for legal issues. I just read GEE-BEE's thread about his dealership doing it w/o any issues. Hmm, weird! I guess I'm going to try another dealership locally (there are 3 locally). Anybody else in the DFW area had the same issue? Or were they just giving me a hard time? Thx!

I don't know what Lexus policy is, but neither USA laws nor regulations require DRL at this time. I think Canada does, and I think some countries in Europe require them, also. (European convention for a long time has been to drive with headlights on all the time anyway.) My guess is that it's cheaper to just put them on all the cars and forget about where the car is being sold or driven.

Finally, who cares at this point if those little lights are on or off. You can't tell when you're driving the car, and they go off when you get out of the car to look at it.

I like the DRL. Especially in a covered parking garage. They make the car look good.

I DON'T like DRLs, and had them disabled at the time I picked up my car; no problems.
Talk to a manager if they're giving you grief. Oh, and a salesman told me Lexus instructed dealers NOT to charge customers for any subsequent changes anymore. That's the least they can do, as those functions should have been user-programmable to begin with, like Corvettes, Acuras, etc. Later.

Thx for the info guys! I'll talk to the service manager about this.
