battery change in key
Does anyone know if you can change the battery in the key by yourself? If so how and what battery to get. I think mine is starting to get low. The distance it works from has been going down a bit.
Thanks

yes you can definitely do it yourself. i thought it's in the manual, at least they mention how in my gs400 manual.
any case, back of the key there is a very small screw, unscrew it. then you can separate it and there is the "core". i believe there are two more small screws and you can change the battery inside.
the battery, something like 2032? can't remember exactly

I change mine all the time (well, every few years).
Use a small phillips head screw driver (very small) and open up the key. Depending on your car, the battery will either be sitting right there or will be inside a plastic module, which lifts out and then snaps open. Proceed carefully, have lots of light available, don't let the screw get lost, and don't force anything because the key is very expensive.
Take the battery to Radio Shack and buy a new one -- this may set you back as much as $2 or $3.00. (Buy one for each key, while you are there.) Take the battery home and reverse the above process. (I have an '02 Lexus and an '04 Lexus, and although the keys look identical, they use different, but readily available, batteries, so don't guess about the battery.)
Do not take the key to Radio Shack and try to open it there.
After the first time, it's a five minute job.
