02 SC430 Certified Preowned price??
looking to buy a used SC
one dealer has an 02 SC with 48000 miles. It is a certified pre owned vehicle.
They are asking $40k. Is this a good or reasonable price?
It is white and i am in CA

I'd say its reasonable. I paid $37,500 for a black 2003 w/ 30k miles, but it was from a wholesaler and didn't have the CPO. I'd request the navigation DVD be upgraded to the latest version.
Out of curiousity, What sort of tread depth is required for CPO?

I just bought a 2003 Black on Black with 11K miles, it is as "new" as a used vehicle can be and it is a CPO vehicle so it has the 3 year 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty. I bought it from the local Lexus dealer for $46K, clean carfax and it was a one owner. It had the runflats replaced with new PZero Nero's and it had the 30K mile service done since it was 3 years old which included changing "all" fluids and filters (air and air conditioning). I would think a 02 SC with 48K miles with the CPO warranty would be around $36K for a good deal.

i bought my 02 silver/ecru back in june with 47K miles, absolutely flawless condition, with 3000 miles of original factory warranty left for $32900, this took 2 days of negotiations and a 4 hr drive. I was ecstatic to get this price!

although its CPO its sounds like its A LOT. I agree 36k is more like a good deal. For $40k id look for atleast a 2003.

Kind of an odd way to jump into the group, but here goes my first post: I just bought an '02 CPO with 41K miles for just under $37,000. However, there's a kicker: I got about $3,000 above the going rate for my trade-in. I'm not sure why the dealer decided to structure things that way--maybe they were just thinking this would make me more likely to take the deal.
The dealer also had an '03 with mileage in the upper 40s (48-49K, as I recall) for $36,995.
However, this is a much different market than CA. I'm in the Chicago area, cold weather is approaching, and the dealer had--for a period of a few days--three CPO SCs on the lot. One of the salesmen I spoke with acknowledged this--he said that we were at a point in the year where the dealership might just put the SCs in storage for the winter and get them out in the spring, then put a higher price on them.
Anyway, the bottom line is that from my distant perspective, the prices you're being quoted don't sound all that great.

The `02 was the first year for the SC430 and it had a few problems with the top operation (I used to own an `02 as well). I think you can do much better.
Good luck!

However, I'm also somewhat realistic in realizing that I didn't get such a good deal because I'm a master negotiator. It was largely due to my timing, in the sense that I stumbled onto a dealer in the snow belt who happened to have three used SC's in stock at the cusp of the winter season.

For reference, I am in Chicago and have just decided to sell my 05 SC 430 with 9500 miles, new Michelin Pilots A/S non runflat tires and the spare tire kit for $50000. While not certified, it still has over 2 1/2 years of the original warranty.

thanks, guys.
here in California, all SCs are priced simiarly. a bit less than 40k for a 02.
do you guys think knocking $5000 off of their asking price is possible? or even doable, on these cars?
