Default antenna problem, timing belt

well, 02 sc430, 94K miles... antenna goes up but it won't come down, unless pushed down and it catches....

what's the best way to fix this? do i need new cable or is it simple adjustment or mast issue? not sure of the mechanics of it...

ALSO, 94K car, freeway mostly ofcourse... timing belt - should i now or wait 'til 120K or so, and how many other drive belts to consider?

You'll need to replace the antenna mast.

At 90K, this is like the 30K/60K service.

This replaces all the lubricants, brake fluid, coolant, ATF, rear diff fluid, engine and cabin air filters.

Additionally, the serpentine flat belts inspected and replaced if dry or cracked.

Review your owners manual ...

On the timing belt, go with what the recommendation is, but your car will not blow up if the belt is not changed by 90k. I have seen them go for considerably more miles. That does not mean to try it though and taking a chance on a $$$$ motor it not fun if one loses.

They are not too bad to change oneself if mechanically inclined.

As I replied in another topic I did change my timing belt and water pump with water seals at 90K. I also had similar problem with antenna and WD40 fixed that. Try it before replacing

Default antenna issue

uh, where do i spray the wd40...i've been cleaning it all along so far but...
now the motor is turning but won't catch, so if i push it down a bit, it catches and goes down. is that a MAST problem or some gear problem ?

how much is this piece? where do i get it? oem or aftermarket?

timing belt and do water pump/seal? what seal? crank seal?

is the sc430 engine interference or non-i engine?

where did you do your timing belt? anyone done it at LMS? if steve does it, probably ok...

The mast comes with a flat drive plastic belt. This operates the antenna.

Check with our sponsor suppliers for the mast.

Please note the picture in the attachment Pearlpower provided.

My problem with antenna probably was a bit different, it was going down but then it was stopping and sticking like 2 inches, so I put the radio on and spayed along the antenna with WD-40, let it sit for a minute or two and than shut the radio off – it went down perfectly and still works fine.
The timing belt I replaced with the dealer ($900) when did 90K service.
As a part of timing belt replacement they were replacing water pump seals and asked me if I want to replace the water pump itself too since they are already there and it will be no charge for the labor just $120 or so for the part - I agreed.
The Lexus recommendation for water pump replacement is at 120K service, if you are not planning to keep it that long than don’t replace it.
