Question Lexus SC 430 MPG: Real World Numbers

I saw a similar thread on other website.

Some say they have 17.9mpg/city or 22.9/combination city and highway.
Share your actual MPG with other SC 430 owners here if you don't think this thread is too boring.

When I look at my computer, it shows....

I am interested in what you guys' number are especially Pearlpower's.
I heard that he got a lead foot like I do.

I haven't reset my MPG since I got the car 12 months ago. Can you reset it ? Anyway, it reads 23.1 MPG. Pretty good. Mostly highway driving and getting kids from school.

Wow..very good. My best MPG is 16.1/highway and it was two yrs ago since I don't travel much now.
I only know when you unplug the battery, it will reset.

lol.. I will I will b/c my rear tires last only like 10k miles the most.
I used to think my driving style was not that bad and something was very wrong with my car till the tires expense came up.

Don't get me wrong.
I am not a racing type driver doing 150+ mph on highway.
Just drive this car very hard and aggressively at 0-80 mph all the time.

lol, my gs400 is a lot more performance oriented (mods), and i can totally see what you mean man. you definitely do NOT have to go over 80mph to burn gas like no tomorrow. in fact in our cars, below 60mph and you can kill gas quick already

LOL. You know, I do not pay much attention to that too much as the car is driven only a few times a week. But I believe it was a bit higher than that. Will check on that tomorrow when I drive down to Torrance to pick something up.

If you hold in the button for about 3 seconds, it will reset the mpg and average speed settings to zero.

My experience since '01 has been about 18 or so in the city and just over 20 on the highway, usually at fairly high speeds.

I drive the car so little (25,000 miles in 6 years) that mpg really is not much of a factor for me, but 13 indicates to me a lot of fast starts or a very heavy passenger.

Thanx for the reset tip. I'm at 14-16 or something. Damn I gotta chill. I'm a beast.

Mine read 21.7 mpg for the last 1,000 miles, shot up to 21.9 two weeks ago after a 200 miles drive in the Napa and Sonoma Wine Country . Got to admit that the SC spent much of the time crusing at the freeway speed limit rather than stop-and-go traffic

Never really seen better than 18-19 combo. I've seen 22-23 on the hwy.

Haven't gotten better than low 16's in my FX35.

Typically get around 21 with combined city / hwy driving. Best was 27+ driving down I95 with the top down and averaging 85 mph for 400+ miles.

27+ mpg is unbelievable, it is almost close what Lexus says in the ad.
I need to do a lot less of fast starts to see I can get close to 20.

There is a 90% chance of me picking up an SC430 very soon, I really wanted a 06 GS300 but this is a great deal (I'll probably just be driving this SC430 for a year and then sell it and probably make some money off of it), one of the major factors to me is the gas mileage, coming from a 95 SC300, I average 17mpg no matter what. Can someone re-assure me that if I drive somewhat normally and only go fast only when it's needed, like rushing if I'm late or changing lanes and the rest of the time driving in peaceful mode, if I can average around 20mpg on the SC430.

thanks guys.

On streets, I do not think you will hit 20mpg. This is just from my own observations. If I drive in a sensible manner I get 17-18mpg in the streets, and that’s with LA type traffic and congestion. Now if I drive like I usually do (accelerate a little faster off lights 3-4K rpm, downshifting to stop/overtake ect ) then my mileage will come down to 15ish. On the highway its a completely different story, I can pretty much average 20 mpg at the least, I have even got her up to 26 one time going to SB with the top down and cruise at 67ish. It really depends on what condition your car is, weather, and you’re driving habits

Good luck

And congrats if you get it!
