Default DVD Navigation Upgrade Issues

Hi - I am a newbie to this great forum. I appreciate any help others could offer. Please pardon this question if it has already been answered (I tried searching the various posts). I have a 2002 sc430 which had the original dvd nav disc in it. This was working fine with no problems. I recently purchased the right 2006 upgrade disc from the Lexus dealership. I followed the install instructions, but the disc would only partially upload and appeared stuck at a certain point (green uploading bar on nav screen indicating that it was taking, but only about 1/5 of the upgrade). I inspected the disc which visually had no scratches on it. I called the Lexus place and they ran me through the same upgrade procedures I already went through, but the same problem continued to occur. They thought it may be a bad disc and is sending me a new one.

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? Does a partial upload create any problems should I later insert a non-defective disk? Lastly, is there a problem driving around with no disc in it, since it will no longer take the original nav disc?

Thanks all for your help!

Hi there and welcome aboard.

Sounds to me like a bad disc if the original worlked out ok in your car as a dirty player would result in problems with the original disc.

No problems driving around with no disc in the car.
Let us know how the new unit works out.

Don't worry, it is just a bad disc.
The same problem happened to me when I first had the 4.1 disc.
You won't have problem driving without a nav disc. (of course, no navigation till you put the new good disc in again)
I now have the 6.1 upgrade, too.

Is 6.1 the most recent?

How much should we expect to pay the dealership for a 6.1 upgrade? Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback and responses! I am glad that it appears to sound only like a bad dvd disc. The place where I purchased the 2006 upgrade was at Sewells Lexus online parts department. The cost (after the instant rebate) was $269 + shipping. I believe this price was good until Jan 30th. Although it may be cheaper to buy someplace else, I wanted to make sure I purchased the right upgrade disc with the option of problem resolution should it not work out right. Sewells was not a huge savings from the local Lexus parts department over here which is asking the retail price of $300, but every bit helps. The people at Sewells were good about the whole thing and stated that they would send me out a new disc to try asap. I will let you all know if I am successful with the 2nd disc attempt.

The installation process is fairly straightforward -they even have that on a pdf file at Sewells as well for those who may be interested.

Thanks again for all the help!

Default Still having problems...

Hi everybody-

I received my 2nd nav disc from Sewells today, but still having the same original problems as the first disc...where the disc partially loads up (about 1/5 the way) then stays stuck at that place... I went ahead and scheduled an appointment at the dealership..

Can anyone think of any suggestions which may be things to consider which may fix the problem?

Thanks!

scfun

Thanks for the suggestion - does unplugging the battery serve a function similar to a hard boot and resetting the computer?

Put the DVD of "Star Wars The Phantom Menace" into the Nav drive. Your nav drive will be so repulsed by that movie that it will be thankful to have any DVD but that piece of crap in there, and will be happy to load whatever you put in it next.
