Default Does anyone know what the piece under the car does?

Does anyone know what is the purpose of the plastic piece protruding down just in front of the front wheel does? I was under the car today and 1. it is a relatively thick piece of plastic, 2. held by six 10mm screws, and 3. it is slightly curved in towards the middle of the chassis. Just wondering if anyone would foresee any possible adverse effects of removing this because I do not. Sorry, I have no pictures because I was lazy. Just look under your own car. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dan,
It is an air deflector of some sort. Either underbody airflow to streamline the aerodynamics or possible for wind noise. Sometimes they are placed on cars to reduce whistling or other noises. Personally man, I would keep it on.

I had those also on the Mcoupe also (front and rear). I kept hearing that it was to help route air around the tires for high speed stability. But while no one can say forsure what they do, I do remember that there was a place that even sold aftermarket ones for the Z3. http://www.strong-strut.com/aerodevice.htm (note: I do miss the aftermarket support of that car, even tho there was less that 7K made for the whole world)

Dan, how come you want to ditch them? I take it you don't like the classic Camaro plastic scraping noise? =) I've since to learned to ignore it but I know people always make a face at me when they hear my car doing that. It really does sound like bumper to pavement..

Dan... I had mines off for one year already. No problems or noises. I took the ones of my S2000 off also.
