2005 SC430 -Thump noise when stopping
I recently purchased a 2005 SC from a private owner. I love the car but have one problem with it that I find annoying. When I come to a stop, I hear a clunk sound in the back of the car right at the time the car reaches a complete stop. It sounds simular to the sound you hear if the trunk lid had popped up and then closed. As another comparison, it sounds like the sound you hear if a spare tire shifts in the trunk (which obviously isn't possible!). Unless I'm breaking very slowly, and I do mean very slowly, I hear it almost everytime I break. The thump is not real loud, but noticeable nevertheless. My local Lexus dealer dealer could not offer any explanation other than to say it might be related to the car leveling itself out when it stops. They said it must be characteristic of the 2005 SC and nothing could be done. I find their explanation unsatisfactory. This is my 4th lexus and I have never experienced anything like this. My question is, has anyone else experienced anything like this? Again, my model is a 2005. Please note it is not the bushing problem that existed with the '02 model. Any help or ideas?

Try stopping (from a low safe speed) only using the emergency brake. Only do this while holding the release handle during the braking. If it doesn't make the sound when you stop, you know it's probably the primary braking system, like the rear pad composite settling in the rotors (which I highly doubt). It would help to know if the sound occurs when the car stops it's forward motion, or when the car snaps back AFTER forward motion has stopped. In other words, the bump sounds when it "damps" or "recoils". I know this sounds wordy, but it really does narrow the possibilities.
