I've been lurking for a while to get info and have recently joined.

I'm looking for an 02 SC430. While I see a decent amount of them on cars.com it seems that silver and white is the most common.

The more surprising thing is that when I goto Lexus.com and do a search for CPO SC430s in NJ I only get 2 hits. Both are red and 04/05 models.

So where are the rest of these cars? Is it normal for so little CPO to be available or is it only because it is winter time?

It seems that the '02s are now starting to list online for under 30k. How much lower do you think I could go? How much more would a CPO cost over an independent dealer that offers no warranty?

If anyone has recently traded in an '02 how much did you get for it?

It is probably not easy to find 02 CPO now, most of the used cars dealer gets are out of lease cars even before they get to the auction and now it is time for 03 coming out of lease. Other year’s probably just trade-ins.
The cost of CPO could differ from car to car depending on how much dealer have to spent on it – insurance itself is $1000 and you can buy it from the dealer without it, but most people fell it’s worth it. The dealer also checks tires and brakes and if it has less than 50% they replace it, plus what ever they find during inspection. The same car could have $3k-$4k difference between independent and dealer and it might worth it.
If you feel you found a clean car with you choice of color from the independent dealer, it’s probably still worth to take it to the dealer and pay for the inspection and paint meter check, to have piece of mind.
