How to install Ipod/mp3 etc. w/ pics

Nope...best is the SL2 Vais which gives you Aux. You can only control volume on the steering wheel, can't change tracks. There may be some other interface brands that are out there, but in my 02 I had this and it worked quite well. For $179 it's well worth it!

Preparing for my Vais SLU install next week.
Can someone tell me how thick the center console wall is?
I'm considering screwing 2 1/8" panel-mount jacks into the center console rather than have a cable or RCAs.
Can anyone think of a reason I would want to have any RCA pairs in the console?

Different future MP3 players...?? What's considered more "universal"? That setup is practically identical to my 09 FX35's set up.
It's hard to say by looking at the outside of the console because it is contoured. Pop out the heated seats panel and see what you have to work with behind that---might give you a better frame of reference. Are you just thinking about poking the jacks through right there above the charger?

It would be very nice if someone could point me in the right direction for iPod and Bluetooth interface to install in my wife’s 02! I need to put it in the shop to have the speakers replaced and it would be a very nice surprise if I got her all of the new bells and whistles to interface with the factory equipment. I have an AVIC in my MkIV and my Tundra and the wifee is stuck with the factory gear in the SC, hehehe.

antigeek,
I can't seem to find your model of vais. ML Plus is pretty nice. How much is it gonna cost you with installation?

Here's the product that is the only option on the 2002 (thru 2004s, I think):
http://www.vaistech.com/products/slu.php
Limited in that it doesn't integrate with the Nav, and very indirectly with the ML head unit. Still, it works to provide MP3 and audio inputs.
I got mine yesterday. With the CL group discount (that was valid until 12/31), it was $174.99 + shipping. Current price on their site is $219.99.
As for installation, I'm going to do it myself. A few parts (< $20), and about 2 hours of expected effort (mostly soldering RCAs to 1/8" jacks in the console), and I should be done.

This is a good link for installation:

If you had the integration with the Nav, you could put the iPod beneath the heated seat controls. Unfortunately, no such option for the 2002s.

On top of using the VaisTech SLU, I added an iSimple cable which taps into a power source and charges my ipod touch while I use it.

It also has a secondary 3.5mm jack input that I have tucked underneath the heated-seat controls so that if anyone wants to hook up their blackberry/nano/discman/etc, it's easy
