Has anyone changed out their stock antenna to the small black rubber ones. If so please send details.

This would be a fairly simple process but am curious why you would want to. Essentially they come with adjustable mounts to fit various angles. The trunk liner on that side would have to be removed to gain access.
Keep in mind that radio reception may suffer and I would question the aesthetic appearance but that is an individuals preference. If you need specific directions send me a PM with your email.

I replaced stock antenna that was bent in carwarsh.

Have to remove the platic fasteners in trunk that attach carpet panel, not all the way though because it's a bear to get out. Just need access to antenna motor.

Careful taking the ring off on the antenna base, easy to scratch car with your tool.

Get antenna up by turning on radio.

Unplug antenna motor wire, then turn off radio (you just stole a "go down" message to the motor).

Plug antenna motor wire back in, turn radio back on.

Radio will send "go up" message to antenna when it comes back on.
But since antenna is already up, motor will spit the antenna cable all the way out.

My reasoning for asking this question is because I'm having to replace it for the second time. I looking for alternative that will give me a piece of mind.

Thanks

Sorry to bump up the old thread, but I'm interested to find out if there's a way to replace the OEM antenna for the one similar to the picture above. Thanks !!

Solution: Purchase a 2005 Nissian 350Z antenna assemble. Swap out old one. Real Easy.

MrSC43 - Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread.

FunGuy - Thanks for your response. Do you know if the 350Z antenna assemble parts would be a direct swap to the 96 Lexus GS300? I'm sure it requires some types of modifications. But if it does, then this is going to be my first mod.

Interesting - Note that isnt a 350Z antenna. A lot of the Z guys swap it out for a Honda S2000 which looks similar to the pic.

Cheers

I have one of those short antennas sitting in my garage. When my Lexus Link was removed, they replaced my aftermarket antenna with the power retractable one. PM me if you're interested.
