I have a friend with an IS350 that loves my SC430 and has threatened my life if I trade it in before I let him know. He was getting his car serviced the other day at Sewell Lexus (they have great service people) and mentioned to the assistant service manager that he loves the SC430.

The service guy told him it is a great car but pretty expensive to maintain over the long haul (routine maintenance on the V-8). He also said most of his customers who come in for service are rich Highland Park women. He said the men who do own them usually drive in with the top down and the women drive in with the top up (so they don't mess up their big Texas hair!) I don't really care who drives them. I love my SC.

The last thing he said is to hold off on trading the IS for an SC because Lexus would soon be coming out with something more affordable that would "blow him away". I can only assume this is an IS convertible. Whatever it is, I can't wait until they release more info!

HAHA, so true, my salesman at MAGNUESSEN LEXUS told me that my car mirrors didn't tilt in REVERSE and had no garage door opener in my car. **Very unknowledgable IMHO.

TBH over the last 3 years its the cheapest car ive owned even servicing is cheap as we dont have Lexus garages in the UK but Toyota garages.. so Toyota pricing.

I havent bought anything not even a light bulb. However Ive probs spent more on Mods then any other car ive owned

Compared to my other car Ive had the last 4 years a Range Rover Ive replaced pretty much everything on that, spent a fortune keeping it on the road and had long periods where its sat on the drive not roadworthy

The reason guy at dealer said SC V8 costs a lot to maintain over the years is he assumed we all love our SCs enough to bring it to dealer every 3000 miles for a $65 oil change.

Not a ton of other maintenance, but those add up.

...unless he was talking about the $1500 90k mile service that DOESN'T include water pump!

Well, I have no idea whether he knew what he was talking about (BTW, he was a service manager, not a salesman) but common sense would say a V-8 SC430 is more expensive for routine maintenance than a V-6 IS350. That is what my buddy currently has.

Service manager is a salesman of service.

In my experience this is true because the service is not well managed.
Well managed service includes competant mechanics.

probably true, but honestly why would someone compare a v8 to v6..... that's not a comparison. compare with other v8 i think is more apprpriate

To maintain? Not really. Sure-2 extra plugs-2 injectors,etc.. but nothing to really separate the two in terms of maintenance. Both are strong motors and the V8 is a proven design. Oil, filters, etc.. all cost the same. Actually doesn't the 350 motor have a special oil filter=more money.
Now if you want to compare V8's, I have one in a car that gobbles cash like a monster. Timing belt every 30k miles, 2 caps,2 rotors, plug wires ($350) , oil leaks every 10k miles, water leaks every few K miles, etc...
The Lexus V8 is very stout and reliable-not perfect, but so close to it.
