Default outside passenger rearview mirror up/down tilt failure

Well, my outside passenger rearview mirror up/down feature finally failed.
When I try it manually on the L/R driver's side switch, the "R" outside rearview mirror doesn't tilt up/down anymore. It only tilts left and right now.

The same goes for when I put it in "R" Reverse. No response for up/down.

I brought it into the dealership for them to take a look at it.

Unfortunately, my 50K warranty has expired and I have 54K.

So they said another SC430 had a similiar probelm and they had to replace the entire outside rearview mirror w/ the motorized motor inside it.

I said if it'll cost me an arm and a leg, I can live w/out the up/down tilt feature.

So it did, the factory (paint color to match) passenger rearview mirror w/ motor was about 500 bucks and labor was about 200 bucks.

700 is what they wanted to get out of me but I said as long as my mirror isn't breaking or cracking, I'll live w/ it for now.

anyone else have this similar issue? My car is an '03.

thanks..teeman3

Buy the used ones on ebay.
Try to get a newer one like 05.

I had the same problem with my '02 and it turned out that the switch was bad. So, before spending $$$'s on a mirror assembly, make sure your switch is working.

Good luck.

I am on my third passenger mirror with my 02. They are frightfully expensive.

I've had this on my Supra it was the switch.

They don't like damp or excess humidity.

Doubt it is the switch as he is having the same with the auto tilt feature which has nothing to do with the switch.

My 2003 did the same thing. On reverse the passenger mirror went down but didn't come back up when I came out of reverse. The switch would work left/right, but not up or down. I manually pressed the mirror back into position. The next time I went in reverse, the mirror worked fine. But it happened once more since then. It is working now, but how about this.... is there a way to disable the "auto down tilt" when in reverse?

Place the selector switch in the middle vs L or R. This will disable the function
