Default New wheels and Tires!!! disappointed :0(

Well, after several months I finally decided on a new set of wheels and tires....Nad6 (only because the NAD 2 had been discontinued) 20x10 in the rear and 20x8.5 in the front. I have had them since Friday afternoon and have been disgusted with the ride and the balancing. I have had them balanced twice already and they still ride horrid. I have had this problem with the sc430 ever since I took ownership. I almost want to trade the thing off. Will lowering the car make any kind of difference?

So you have new tires + new rims?

You car might have some other issues if wheels are balanced correctly and correct hub centric rings are installed. Lowering your car won't solve your problem.

Obviously it could be a multitude of things, but did you say that it vibrated before the wheels? If not try having them balance again. I've heard a few horror stories about people having alot of vibration problems with lower end wheels.

It is the ride or balance? Different issues there.
Also keep in mind that many with aggressive offsets seem to have more balance issues vs those with standard offsets.
In terms of ride itself that would be dependent on the tire you picked as many here have 20's and have no issue with the ride.

has the car been in any accidents before? Did you get the SC pre-owned? If you had these problems since ownership, there might be issues with the suspension.

I will post pix today if the weather breaks.
I have had issues with balancing and getting a shimmey at 55. I did finally get the balancing better on the factory wheels at the Lexus dealership in Memphis Tenn. (The car has NEVER been in an accident) I am traveling about 100 miles to another wheel shop to see if they can do better. I guess I will sacrifice the ride for the looks. I hate to do that! but I can not stand the looks of the factory and the width in the rear. Thanks for everyones comments!

i have an important question first: are they wheels in perfect condition, not bent or out of round?

if that's the case, then i think the shop has real problem that they can't balance the wheels

Try finding a shop that can balance them on the car. I had the same problems you did. That went a long way in correcting my issues.

good point!

recently, I changed out run-flat's with conventional tires, the ride definitely improved tremendously. however, 2 out of 4 stock rims were bent pretty bad by last owner, thus I had experienced vibrations between 50~60mph till I changed out the 2 bent rims. now, my SC430 rides almost as smooth as my LS430, thanks to conventional tires on perfectly-round rims!

the 18"+ rims are so easy to get bent. I will seriously consider a set of new 17" rims (the stock size on LS430) when this new set of conventional running out of tread.

its either NAD wheels are out of round or did not give you hubrings.

another good point too, use of hub rings is important in helping to achieve good rides

I do have hubrings in....and the wheels are brand new with brand new tires. The wheels were sent to me mounted and balanced but I had to have the wheels broke down to put in the tire sensors and the Goodyear store did not do a good job on rebalancing them. Joe and Jerrys custom wheel and tire did a better job but they still are not what they should be. I will a post update when I get it resolved whether it is trhe rims or tires or just the balancing. I am ready for a drop next!

its my experience that alot of shops dont balance the tires well enough. You want the fronts to be perfect if you want to avoid that 50-60 vibration.
