Default v1 Hardwire questions from a noob.

Hi. I took the overhead dome light assembly down, and am looking at a bunch of wires.

I searched the forum, and there is one lengthy thread in the GS area. One gentleman stated to pull power from a violet colored cable, but I don't see such a cable in my SC.

1. What color cable did everyone grab power from?

2. Is the cable on the dome assembly or in the overhead?

3. Where did you ground to? I don't see a screw anywhere where there is metal.

HELP!! Thank you!

I have not looked up in there but usually the ground is black. I would pick another wire and put across a meter or test light. Make sure you don't pick a switched wire that goes off and on with the light. If you can get a wiring diagram it would be best.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. You're suppose to ground to a metal component, and I don't see any screws up there to begin with.

Grab power from the orange / brown wire. I grounded to one of the metal screws that holds the light assembly up - if yours aren't metal I'm sure they are easy to replace.

Hi. Thanks but there is no orange/ brown.. just an orange, and then a separate brown.

As far as the screw that holds in the assembly, is it okay that the ground is sandwiched between the metal part of the body, and the plastic of the assembly? I mean.. its not like the screw would be there if it wasn't holding up the assembly.

Hmm, don't know what to tell you - on my 2003 there was only one wire that color. I got that info from thread searches (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...alentine+SC430) and they all said the same thing. If I remember correctly, the Valentine adapter clips on the outside of the wire and pierces the insulated covering so worst case you could try it on one and if that didn't work, try the other. No spicing or wire cutting needed, just a piece of electrical tape if the 1st wire didn't work.

As far as the ground wire, I wrapped it around the metal screw, then tightened the screw back into the car body. It never touches the plastic assembly.

Thanks for the help! I guess I will try random cables, and do what you said. Thanks!
