I once saw an LS400 come in with 170k+ miles. After he was shown his timing belt he decided to get it done. He was actually missing a few teeth on his belt.

Had another friend tell the dealer that they were thieves for trying to push a timing belt change on his Honda. 6 months later the belt went and so did his motor. 2k+ later he was on the road with a new belt-and top end. He took back to the same dealer to fix it. I was not about to touch the car as he is a PITA to deal with when it comes to money which is what put himself in the situation to begin with.

After inspecting my old belt I noticed it had some cracks in it. I also drive harder than most and my car has a bit more HP than stock so I'm glad I changed it when I did.

Timing belt service is serious business and not something to take lightly for those wanting to put it off.
Just want to say how much I appreciate you time and effort on this post. I am about to remove PS pump and Alternator so I can overhaul both of them while I am in here. This is my first TB change and I am holding on removal till a friend comes over later this week to help who has experience. But I am excited to finally learn TB change. Your help here was huge. Thanks

I bought the ASIN TKT021 Timing belt kit. When I opened the kit and checked the new timing belt , it looks like this below. In two different places, there are thread fraying on the back of the belt. Anyone who had replaced the belt before had seen this? Is this normal or it is a defective belt?

I would call customer support at ASIN - I just put one on and did not notice it on mine but I was not looking for this either. I did inspect it, so I think I would have taken notice of something like you did. Curious to see what ASIN would say.

They said that is normal. It is stated in their website as FAQ as below:Q: Is there a problem with the thread fraying on the back of the belt?

A: There is no problem.
I took the old belt out and inspected it and found that the old one does not have any stiches. So either the original belt did not have the threads at all and the new belt is improved with threads in the gear side or the new one is just having lower quality.

BTW, what is the seal package that you bought from Amazon for the PS pump and the Alternator? Do you have a name or parts number for that? Thanks.
