just curious
Obviously you guys like your cars that's why you own one. But I'm also a member at mbworld.org and I don't know if it's a german car enthusiast thing or not but they love bashing on sc430's on how bland it is, how slow it is, and how it's for a women, etc...
Personally I've driven my buddy's 2003 sc and loved it. Might not be as fast as an AMG but it is luxurious and everything you want is there except the back seats haha. what are you thoughts? Although I like how my mb drives I don't like how unreliable it is.

a lot of people on forums are biased on the products they own, that's normal. even here, some people are biased towards lexus (maybe me as well). we got people here thinking the 5 series is ugly, and bmw owners think it's just fine.
bottom line? to each his own. to me?
1) sc430 isn't bland. if anything the mb c class is in front
2) it's slower than amg for sure, but it's also faster than a lot of mb too and last time i checked, only the c class amg is in the same price range as the sc430, all other amg are $$ more
3) i see sc430 left and right here in socal every day. i see more men driving the car than women
it's just my 2 cents. don't take it too seriously, it's not against mb or any other brands. there are pros and cons and it's all about how you see it (and how biased you are)

They bash what they are afraid of (i.e. things they do not have such as the reliability, comfort, and build quality) and do not know. It is the same way Porsche, Bimmer, MB, Lotus people put each other down because they want to "justify" their purchase. Many times, once they drive the "other" car, they admit that it isn't as bad as they thought. Ignorance.

I just hate 'mercedes fanboys'. I'm sure it's like that in all forums but it's especially bad for MB forums as they take even modest critique on MB's so seriously. They think mb is the best car in the world. It's funny it gets so bad that people made a nickname for them. It's just too bad my wife bought it just before she met me. I would've forced her to buy lexus RX. She was considering it too. I'm also member of acura legend forum(I own a legend) and they're more 'welcoming' of other brands.

well, to me quality is what keeps on haunting mb. i know couple of sl owners, they love the car, only if they run. they spend a lot of time in the c class loaners. but the new s class seems to be pretty good so far

This past weekend I was at a function and was talking story to the vallet boys and I asked them out of all the car brands you have driven (excluding exotics) what brand would you buy? Their answers were all Lexus.

I like the SL and CLS however the low standard spec and reliability is still a major concern. Options are charged at about 30% higher than the rest of Europe.
While we worry about an oxygen sensor failure at 90,000 miles a friend of mine with a 5 year old E class has rust on every panel, engine blew up and the suspension collapased...
Also at my local dealer they are AMG specialists and service Ron Dennis (mclaren boss) SL55AMG. It was intermitantly cutting out and had been into the dealers numerous times but could not be fixed. Eventually he told them to keep it...
Mercedes still have a lot of work to do to regain customers confidence.

both my dad and father in law are loyal MB owner until they were told what happen to my wife's C320. I absolutely love the apearance of some MB cars but with the issues we experienced and compared to the two Lexus I own and had owned at that time. It is not a hard decision to get rid of the problem one.
I have been in MBworld.org a few times and also read a few threads in particular the S vs LS one. One comment I found very funny coming from MB owners is they keep on saying "Lexus is no Mercedes Benz". I was like hello? Even a 5 years old can tell me Lexus is Lexus, MB is MB and APPLE is NO ORANGE! The fact is every car or manufacturer has their own focus and philosophy. Toyota/Lexus choose to put their priority on reliability and that serve me as a car buyer, user well. Styling is personal preference but not something I will trade the reliability over.

Upon reading KA8's post, I had to go look. I registered (only way I could figure out to get the search function to work) and did quite a bit of reading last night.
Wow, they HATE us. I don't know how else to put it. I started reading one thread and it went from "I'd take an MB over Lexus anyday" to "why are you making fun of gay people by saying that only f@gs drive an SC430?".
I never realized how peaceful a) the people at CL are and b) how good a job the forum moderaters do to keep people on-topic and to keep things from getting VERY personal (feel free to figure out for yourself what they feel you should have in your where to be seen driving an SC430. Ouch.)
Also, it seems that the standard response when someone brings up MB reliability and the horrible MB dealer network is "Well, I don't mind working on my own car and the contacts/switches that often fail are very easy to repair/replace."
I have a very simple answer to that one....NO! If I spend $60K+ on a car, I don't want it to be easy to repair...It shouldn't break down! If I buy a '62 Jeep, yeah, I expect to spend my weekends turning a wrench. But, in this day and age, not on a new (or less than 5-year-old) car. Now, I know that no car is 100% reliable, and that there's always the possibility of buying the most-reliable model from a reliable manufacturer and getting a lemon but, those J.D. Powers and Consumer Reports studies are from thousands of customers. We're not talking about statistical flukes here.
I don't hate MB's nor do I hate people who drive them or like them. For me, the bottom line is....a car is transportation. It has to get me from point A to point B. Fun-to-drive is a factor...as is sporty-handling...as is looks. But, if it consistently breaks down while I'm going from point A to point B, it fails in it's fundamental purpose!

that's pretty much how my wife says it too, habious. she loves couple of mb models, namely the sl and cl class. however she said there is no way she will get the car unless she knows she won't have to go to the dealership moreo than 3 times a yr. right now we go to lexus dealerships maybe 4 times a yr for services and that's plenty. she says it's even more stupid if every time she drives in in a 100k sl500 and come out in a 30k c230 loaner and drive that for the next 2 weeks
there are stuff about mb that i really like, for example styles, rigidity, stance. but car is only good if it runs

Haha it gets a lil silly doesn't it? I get a kick out of some of these people's comments sometimes. Hopefully I will be joining the lexus family soon but not anytimes soon... our mb depreciated $12K already in first year... bummer
