What Temp to drop TOP?
I just read a post on putting the top down and it being too cold outside. I was curious at what the outside temperature needs to be before YOU would drop the top. Let's assume the sun is shinning and it looks like a beautiful day, just cold...
My response is somewhere around 50. Anyone feel comfortable driving around on a colder day?

Leather jacket, Scottish driving cap, leather gloves, heat on, seat heaters on - 45°
However, for me, it depends on how far I'm going. The above criteria is fine for my drive home; which is about 8 miles, through traffic. If I was going 25 miles on the highway, it would need to be pretty darn close to 60 before I'd put it down.
A 20 minute drive with 45° air is "brisk and refreshing"...anything longer than that, it's just "cold"!
I'm also not a big fan of the look of a convertible with the top down but the windows up. My personal opinion - If it's cold enough that I need to roll up the windows, I'll put up the top.

How about the faces on people you pass that see you bundled up in your car with the top down on a "brisk" day. They're probably thinking that something is wrong with you Right. Ha. I get alot of looks from people when it is cold and the tops down. Especially from S2000, Miata, SL500 owners (convertible cars)...

It must be different for Porche owners. One particularly cold day this winter I pulled up next to a Boxster with his top down. He's got the coat done up under his chin tight... leather cap on, pulled down covering the ears. And he's got an iron clad grip on the wheel, and he's looking straight ahead. He knows everyone is looking at him and thinks he's nuts.
... the temperature was about -25 Celsius, so about -13 Farenheit. Yup! He must have been relocating it and didn't want to take a chance to move the top up.
:-) Seat heaters or not, that must have been a frosty ride.

For me, the top goes down almost automatically at about 55 degrees (f) if it's sunny. Occasionally as low as 45-50.
The windows start going down and the heater off around 60.

I don't have a temperature. If it isn't raining or snowing the top is down!
Maype the windows up at 40-50 but after that is just fine. That's why I own convertibles.

I have driven top down for an extended period at significantly below 10C/50F, but on average, I would say that's the temperature below which I would usually leave the top up.
