Default Brake pads worn out at 18,000 miles

How long have your brake pads lasted on the SC?

Quite surprised that I am getting the scraping noise at 18,000 miles although I have filled the reservoir up once since the fluid warning light came on.
Despite most of the driving having been around town surely you would expect30,000 + miles before the pads are shot.

Did you change both front and rear pads at the same time, and any good aftermarket pads for this car?

Cheers

I bought my 2003 with 30k miles on it and it didn't appear that the pads had been changed. I finally changed them at 60k, not because they were worn out, but because one of the fronts had a "hotspot" and I didn't like the thrumming noise it created. When they were changed the shop said the fronts had about 15% left, the rears about 25% left - I had them all changed at that point.

So assuming the wholesaler did change the pads before selling it to me (which I seriously doubt), I got at least 30k on the pads - and possibly 60k before they were changed.

I use a independent garage to do the work, so I'm sure they used aftermarket pads - but what brand I don't know. I can dig up the invoice and see if it lists it, but I'm sure it wasn't anything special.

I have a 2003 with 74,000 km (approximately 45,000 miles) with the original brakes. Last time I rotated tires there still was good thickness on the front and rear pads.

I live in rural British Columbia so the car has very little city driving. The only conclusion is city driving must be really hard on brakes.

Interesting how much mileage variation there is, dealer reckoned 15K is typical which I think is low.

Front and rear pads booked in at the local dealer for £266 fitted.

Dont want to risk using non oem pads yet.

Cheers

Changing subject .. Do you find the OEM pads are REALLY NOISY when wet?

Not rain etc but if you hose them down.. I get a really ear piercing screech until they dry up.

Only done 12K myself and still plenty left (unfortunatly)

No problems at all in the wet or when washed.

My 350Z pads lasted 28,000 miles on a similar route and had 3 track days!
These discs and calipers are small for the mass of the car and the fact that it is an auto doesnt help.
