Mercedes is offering serious dealer cash on leftover 07 and new 08 SL550s. I can get a new 07 which listed for $102K for $78K and a similar 08 for $83K. I hate to give up my SC with only 2500 miles, but the SL is just too nice a car to pass up at that price. I also like my local Merc service guy who I will be getting to know better after the purchase.

The SL is a beautiful car. If you get one, post some pics of it!

I actually bought my 06 SC a few months ago. It was a year old and had 250 miles on it. I now have about 2600 and figure I'll be able to sell it for $50ish which will keep me from taking a bath. You have to buy these high end cars smartly to keep from getting hammered as you trade cars.

I don't think I would trade an SC430 for an SL, unless it was an AMG or SL63 for the price listed by the op.....and we know that ain't likely. The interior of the SC unmatched in it's class. True, the SL looks better but the SC is more stylish and way more reliable. Put on some nice wheels with a drop and the SC is the hands down winner imo.
But, an SL is a sweet car and has more leg room and comfort for the driver. It also has that torquey engine. Good luck on your choice.

First off the SL is not made by or owned by Ford; you should be thinking Chrysler and in fact MB owns Chrysler.
IMHO the SL is an amazing car and beats the SC430 in many categories, especially on the performance and styling side. I'll give it to the SC for reliability/maintenance and ergonomics, but the SL is my favorite luxury convertible. Drive one for yourself and see...the AMG cars(SL55 and SL65) blow the SC430 out of the water!

I personally have always loved the styling of the SL. A guy around the corner from me has a white 550, with sport package, and 19" chrome HRE's, just a really clean car. I look at it everytime I pass it.
I think its one of the best looking MB's of all time.
I say try something different with the SL!
