Default Rough Idle

When my 2002 sc430 is at a stop light, the car seems to idle rough. Any suggestions to check? Could it be a dirty fuel system? Will a gas additive help the situation?

Throttle body cleaning every 6-8, months, depending on mileage, will improve the problem so it's just about unnoticeable. I had the dealer do it while the car was still under warranty.

I was told you just take the top cover off and clean the port with some kind of carb cleaner and a rag. A better detailed description of the process would be greatly appreciated. I am about ready to do mine again....

Thanks,

I wouldn't use carb. cleaner, use throttle body cleaner. Some throttle bodies have a coating on them and the carb cleaner will take that off and then you will have problems so I use the throttle body cleaner to be on the safe side.

Could be your motor mounts, I changed mine around 50,000 miles. Go to your dealer, it should be under powertrain warranty, I doubt theyll charge. I didnt pay for mine and it passed regular warranty. Good luck

All good replies. I would also clean out the MAF sensor as contaminants often times find homeage (hi-end technical term) on the hot wire inside the MAF sensor. Auto part stores sell a can of MAF cleaner just for this.

I once had a small piece of debris stuck in my MAF and my GS would not start. In fact is stalled on the freeway. $300 tow, $300 fuel pump, and it took 1 second to clean the wire once I found the culprit.
