I was at Indy once and they used Automatic transmission in their gearbox/differentials during qualifying trying to reduce oil drag and get that last 1/2 mile per hour. Good for maybe 50 miles!

I had a Fiat X/19 that had a combo gearbox/differential and it used Automatic transmission fluid also.

I have look into that extensively and that is an impossible task. The absolute best a local place can do is match Tirerack's price.

They are tough to beat and their service is A+.
I just need 4 Blizzack snows for next winter and they don't carry the size.
I am sure they can order them but then the cost keeps creeping up.

Agreed! Tire Rack is the best.

Tire Rack don't have the retail store overhead, it is unfair to compare local store to them.

Do you mind to talk about what kind of vacuum pump you use to suck it out the dipstick tube?

I am tired of getting under the car!

Sure you can get them at any marine supply house like Boaters World or order them online.

http://www.pelaproducts.com/description.htm

I bought the PL-650 as I can suck up 6 quarts out of my boat engine.

Just slide the tube all the way down the Dipstick tube until it bottoms out and just pump it a couple of times. Couple of minutes and two quarts of old tranny fluid is in the tank.

I have used it on my brake lines too for a flush. I use a helper to add fluid while I use the pump to suck out the old flid down at the calipers.

It will even suck the gear lube out of the differential.

Default AMSOIL User

I have changed the Motor Oil over in my wife's 02 SC430 to 0-3W Amsoil. 4000 miles and the dipstick is stil pretty clean. Aswesome. Engine is smooth as glass.

I am starting the Amsoil ATF changeover this weekend. First time, drop the pan for filter and gasket. After that, the boat syphon sounds great. Thanks Norm!

Post Change your fluids

My wife's '02 SC has only 19K miles on it but I figure the fluids are 6 yrs. old and should be replaced regardless of mileage.

I put The SC up on ramps and drained the transmission fluid from the pan by removing the factory installed plug. I was pleased to find out I drained three (3) Qts. from the pan (and trannny). The owner's manual lists that the pan holds 1.9 Qts. Maybe I got lucky and got some additional fluid to drain because of the angle of the car?

I measured the amount drained to make sure I did not overfill the trans when refilling. The drain plug makes it real easy to get the fluid out of the pan without any mess.

I refilled with AMSOIL Synthetic ATF. Car shifts smooth as glass. Took a couple of "hot laps" to test things and all seems fine.

This is an easy way to exchange the transmission fluid without taking it to a dealer or tansmission shop.

I changed the brakefluid by bleeding the brakes (a lot) while rotating the tires. EASY!

Also took a battery filler syringe and syphoned the power steering reservoir until no more old power steering fluid would come out. Then refilled with new fluid.

Next is the antifreeze/coolant.

We bought the car 4K miles ago and I don't know if the previous owner's had it done. But I figure a few hours and a few bucks and I don't have to worry about fluids breaking down in this awesome car
