Default what do you guys think about this deal

a friend of mine his lease is due in september, a buyout on his 05 sc430 is 32k. what do yall think? is that a good price? do i normally pay any other fees or just ttl?

the car has 21k miles now. it shld be under 30k miles in sept.

that's a good deal. could probably turn around and sell it for a profit.

Yes, it would be a good deal now. By September, well who knows. But $32K is today's decent price for a 04 in good shape with fairly low miles like the one you mention.

I've watched these cars on ebay for the past three months. 108 cars have been listed, and about 10 actually sold. Most (90%) don't meet the reserve. Of these 108 auctions, there is really only about 50 to 60 cars, as many have been listed twice, some three even four times. It must be cheap to list a car today on EBay.

Smile Not bad price, but older might be better buy

I too, have been watching SC430's on Ebay for several months and agree that most of them are not selling because the sellers want too much. I lost out on several auctions but finally submitted an offer on a Buy it Now deal and it was accepted. A 2002 with 52K miles for $24,000. and it has Nav and non run flat tires. Excellent maintenance and ownership history.

I have seen cars with less mileage selling on Ebay auction for more; like a 2002 for $26,000. with the mileage about the same as the 2005 you are considering.

I am not convinced that it is worth $6,000 to $8,000 more ($32,000 in your deal) just to get a 2005 model, although having a year to go on the factory warranty might be enticing. I see a lot of Lexus dealers are asking $45,000 for 2005 models with under 50K miles. If your only option is buying a CPO from a dealer, then $32,000. is quite a bargain.

I just bought a SC 430 with just under 10,000 Friday. Blue, cream interior, all the bells and whistles. It's a little hard to tell you just what I paid for the car having a trade involved but the "asking" price was $43,500. If that is any help. JEH

Smile Value of your trade in

The trade-in value they gave you is at best the wholesale value, but might be less depending on what they see the Mannheim Dealer auctions are getting. For example, they would only give me $5,000 for my Jaguar while the trade-in value on Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds and Nada all showed about $10,000. They did not get my Jaguar, I bought my SC430 from another dealer and paid cash.

So, you can look up your trade-in value and add the cash boot that you gave and that would be about the true price you paid. You did not say what year the SC430 was, but I'll bet it was a 2005 because of the price they were asking.

i've never buy a used vehicle before i just want a sc for the weekend. i rather buy cheaper one from someone i know but there are not alot of them here. scare of ebay!

Ebay is no different then any other sales medium. You do have to be careful who you are dealing with but I have had excellent experiences using eBay both selling and buying. Never pay for a car before you feel and touch (just like you would do regardless of who you were dealing with). I maintain that eBay is the true test of what items are worth and you can get excellent deals on eBay. Of course you can get screwed too if you allow it to happen. But there is no reason to be afraid to bid on a car. I've bought several cars and a motor cycle on eBay and never had a minutes problem. JEH

Man8959, that sounds like a pretty good deal for an 05 w/21K miles on it. Purchasing a vehicle from someone you know (a friend) has lots to do with the deal too. I don't see how you could go wrong.

As far as Ebay goes... I have purchased many items including my SC430 off of Ebay. On big ticket items such as a vehicle, you should always, and I mean always figure in the cost to put your eyes on the vehicle. Whether you drive it back or ship it back it's best to be there to see what you paid for prior to delivery. I've heard some horror stories concerning vehicles purchased on Ebay. On the other hand I've heard some pretty good stories too. Do your homework and you should be okay.

I saved about $5,000 buying my 2003 SC off of Ebay compared to what they wanted in Seattle and more than that if I had bought one from the Lexus dealership. Besides, there weren't any Red ones in Seattle.
Frequent flyer miles to Dallas and $450 in gas and expenses to drive it home.
2,650 miles in 44 hours. Only got stopped once! Just a warning too!

There are all manor of people dealing on eBay. Here is what has worked for me. Both of the cars I purchased were being sold by guys getting divorced and being forced to sell their toys. Often time is critical and if they are trying to hide money from the ole wife they will often take well under the market in cash. I will call and talk to the seller before bidding and often dicker on their buy it now price offering to pay cash and to buy today. It is no different then buying from a private party (that you don't know). Travel is a issue but to save thousands its often worth it. You are not going to get something for nothing but both deals went smoothly for me. I got two great cars and saved at least a couple grand. Ebay rocks in my estimation. JEH

In addition here is a question on the lease deal. When a lease ends with a buy out number in place that is good to the original leasor. If the car goes back to the dealer then he can put any price on the car he wants, is that not correct? What I am getting at is to the original post. That number of $32,000 is to the fellow that has been leasing the car. If it goes back to the dealer can you in fact be certain you can get it for that same number? Might have to have the leasor buy the car and then sell it to you or not???

Default Car goes back to Lexus, not the dealer.

The dealer has to then buy it at a Lexus auction, i am sure. The dealer will then mark it up for their margin. So nowhere is that $32K buyout figure ever relevant again, if the original leasee does not choose to exercise that buyout.
