Default am having 2nd thoughts....... ;-(

Geeeezzzz.... I was looking at a used 2005 C4S convertible.......but then I read the maintenance costs..... I'm second guessing now.

how about the 2005 and up Boxsters..... are the maintenance as much money as the 911's? (sorry to change the subject......

Same problems. Go look up parts cost and then check the forums for problems. Ever wonder why Boxsters depreciate so fast....................
Come back here and try to find ANY major problems.

Thanks Norman for your experiences....... so I guess Boxsters are worse for reliability. I want another car for a daily driver. My SC430 has been soooo good to me. (just regular maintences costs are no problem....ie...brakes, rotors, ......) but compared to Porsches parts I guess Lexus parts are lesser.

I wonder why Edmunds.com loves the new '05 and up Boxsters sooo much?

am second guessing them now since you posted your experience on owning a Porsche.

Everyone loves a new car when it is under warranty. It doesn't cost us anything to repair. It might be in the shop a few days waiting for parts but you don't get a bill.
Now buying used is when you have to be careful. The second 50K miles in a car can be cheap or break the bank. Just for fun go do a search for Ferrari parts. You are saying you would never buy a used Ferrari because you couldn't afford the upkeep. A little secret? Parts cost no more than a Porsche!
Jaguar parts are not too expensive at all. trouble is you are always buying them!
If you can set aside $5K a year for repairs and maintenance then a used Porsche would be a great car. They don't break down more than any other car. They just cost an arm and a leg to fix. A lot of our Lexus parts are also Toyota parts so they might make a million of those items a year compared to 20 or 30 thousand Porsche parts.
My old 89 944 cost twice as much as a new Corvette when it was new and now that it is almost 20 years old it is worth half of what a used 89 Corvette is. Parts and service is the big difference.
I bought my SC430 because I came to these forums looking for problems. What did I find? Run flat tires and CD's that get stuck in the radio. No one blows up a transmission, no one blows up an engine. No major complaints at all. Zero! And it didn't matter whether it was a USA forum or one in Great Britain or Japan. Same thing.
I have a saying. If you go on vacation and you step up and fly first class (by paying for the seats and not using miles for an upgrade) then you have enough money to maintain a Porsche.
Nothing worse than having a car in the garage that you can't afford to fix and drive.

One more thing. If you drive it maybe 5K miles a year as a Sunday driver then you will be fine. Gas and insurance and oil changes and 12 quarts of Mobile 1 every 6 months. $3K for brakes every 6 years wouldn't be bad. Tires every other year. But you want to drive it to work everyday plus the weekends? Maybe 30K-40K miles a year. Forget it.
You will be working everyday just to get it out of the shop.

Thanks, You know the TR4 has a back seat just about the same size as the SC430! And a wood dash too! Not quite as comfortable. The Jag? Well it gives me something to do on my days off. I have no idea how these cars can undo bolts on there own! And Lucas That is a whole nother forum............

I would never buy a Porsche again...9+ quarts of oil to change...
What ruined the fun was replacing a headlight...for $1500 (part only with a discount), note not headlights.

Norman is correct. The parts and service can become very expensive. It didnt make financial sense to me to continue to own it after warranty. I sold the P-Car and will look forward to rackin up more miles in the SC!
