How bright is your Nav & Instrument Display?
With the top down, my Nav screen does not seem bright enough. I have tried the tilt function, which does not seem to help much. I have also adjusted the brightness and contrast on the display settings menu. Also, the instruments do not seem bright enough in the day time. With the top up in the day time the nav screen is o.k. but still the instrument lighting is lacking, even with the dimmer set at maximum brightness.
One might think my eyes are going bad, but I would expect the displays to be much brighter. Our LS430 with the sun roof shade open, has very bright instrument and Nav displays.
Anyone else think their's are not bright enough? Could it be the newer model roadster's have brighter displays?

It's an LCD, a technology that doesn't work well in direct sunlight. For comparison purposes, take your laptop (which has a similar screen) outside on a sunny day-- the screen will be unreadable. The tilt helps a LITTLE, but it would take a LOT of light (we're talking headlight levels of light) to shine through an LCD with direct sunlight.

Try different sunglasses. I have some prescription clip-ons that keep me from reading my Sirius and Stereo screens in my other car when I have them on. Just a thought......

Typical complaint for navs/displays on many cars, especially convertibles. The displays washout in direct sunlight. Happens in my Infiniti as well. Hopefully the R&D guys will get it right one of these days. Those navs and displays are nice, but they do nothing for you if you can't see them.

Also, note how the main instruments on the SC430 are recessed in those tubular shrouds - obviously designed to keep direct light from falling on the faces. People have asked for the SC430 to have the electro-luminescent displays on other Lexus vehicles, but they'd be unreadable in bring sunlight.
