Default Painting rims

Hey guys,

I have some Lowenhart BR-5s that I just got from a friend (off of his SC430), but the only problem I have with them is that they are the silver finish. I know a lot of people paint their rims to match the color of their car, and I am generally not a fan of it except on dark colors. The 2007 factory rims already match my color (they are black chrome and the car is Smokey Granite).

I would like to make these rims match the car (or at least be darker). I have researched it a little, and most people recommend powder-coating, but that seems a little extreme. I know it holds up better, but how well does just paint hold up? I know a lot of people make it a DIY project with the duplicolor spray paint etc... I have a hard time imagining that being very reliable.

Please share any experiences or recommendations on this topic. Thanks!

Powder coat is the best way to go. Unless there is a lot of prep work to do to the metal, which would probably be the same work required for paint, it's not an extreme process at all. Prep, mask, connect electrode, spray, bake, you're done. I have done some PC work myself on small parts it's a pretty cool system I like it better than paint.

yep, i agree. powdercoating is the way to go. i painted some old 17" OEM GS wheels a couple of years ago and my whole garage had dust from the sanding.

if i had to do it again, i'd powder coat in a second...

How well did the paint hold up on your GS wheels?

Powerder coating would be extreme but doable.
Painting with a can of paint would be on the other end of the spectrum; I would recommend a good clear coat. Either is harmful so wear a good mask.
