How were you hit from behind and have no damages? Check to see if the impact loosened the roller cover in the trunk if nothing happens then take it to the dealer and hope the motors are still good

If you got hit and the roof stopped working as a result would you not be covered by insurance.

Good post by GammaLex. Hopefully you can open your trunk to see if the cover is pulled back and inserted to activate the switches. (on both sides) Other than that I would see if anything is bent or in a bine. Lastly, I would check the instruction in your manual to open by hand.

Good luck and I hope that helps,

lar

I saw a Dateline (or some such show) once that demonstrated that impacts can sometimes do internal damage to the energy absorbing foam and the like whereas the bumper cover bounces back and looks perfect. Perhaps a cable or something has become dislodged, cut, etc.

There is one switch for the roller cover which is located on the left side. It is the black lever down in the opening.

Do you receive a red light on the switch when you are trying to open it?

Also, do you get a door open warning on the dash even though everything is closed? Could the the rear hatch switch is knocked out of whack.

I would try reseting the ECU by removal the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes to reset the ECU for the top.

Get rid of your car asap on ebay and purchase another one.

Just take it in to the dealer for repair. You will have plenty to do so after your "whip lash" settlement.

thanks for your reply's... but i probably need to be more specific... i was bumped from behind... maybe that is a better indication on how hard i was hit...

about the roof... when i press the button to drop the top... trunk opens and everything to receive the roof top... but the only problem is that the roof cannot dislodge from the windshield... its as though the two prongs that inserts themselves in the windshield when closing are too long and won't allow the roof to open when the roof is retracting... roof goes up and out instead of out then up... seems like something might be misaligned...

dealer said it could be one peice that needs to be replaced but then again it could be something more serious... so before i give them hundreds of dollars i wanted to check with you guys and see if anyone has experienced this before... i hope this was a better explanation...

Sorry to hear that your mistake was letting whomever bumped into you leave the scene without trading insurance info. Your only option is to go to the dealer and prepare your AMEX for a nice charge. Now your stuck with the bill

Have you tried using the manual roof-latch tool that's in the trunk of the car? There's a beige plug on the inside of the roof (on the headliner). Under that plug is a manual release for the top latch. There's a tool in the trunk to stick in there and turn. It might just be "stuck". Worth a try at least.

The owner's manual has the procedures for manually opening/closing the roof...and it includes the latch crank I'm referring to.

Same thing happened on my one and only roof problem - front wouldn't lift off windshield. Seemed like it was stuck like yours.

Turned out, roof cable had come off it's track on the passenger side. (A nudge from behind might do this, although I wasn't nudged.)

Dealership put the cable back on it's track and tightened it. (Warranty fix.) That was over two years ago. No problems since.
